2013 HGTV Dream Home | Aug 2012 | Inspired by a conviction to sustainability and a love of the beautiful South Carolina landscape, this years Dream Home presents a new architectural style, Zen Lowcountry. The design combines traditional Lowcountry elements with heavy timber accents and a contemporary flair. The project is part of Indigo Park, the first neighborhood at Kiawah Island pursuing LEED Platinum certification. A firm concentration on sustainability was used throughout the design process, from schematic design through material selections, to ensure a truly green result. This approach was used in tandem with a complimentary design goal to create a home that is aesthetically integrated with the landscape that surrounds it. The intent is to create a product that is truly harmonious with its environment, in both form and function. The 3,000 square foot home features three full bedrooms with private baths, a double-height great room, a large kitchen with adjacent pantry and laundry, a central dining area, and a multi-purpose loft space overlooking the great room. Unique architectural features include solid beam trusses in the great room and loft, heavy timber exterior supports with exposed custom steel connections, carefully placed German window and door units in each room, and a spacious rear deck with swimming pool and generous views to the marsh beyond. Additional exterior materials include PVC shingles and trim, a standing seam metal roof, and powder coated aluminum railings with Meranti toprail and accents. | Kiawah Island, SC | ||
