Transitional Dark Wood Cabinetry Kitchen with Beverage Center

Sep 2007

When this young, jet-setting Falls Church, Virginia, family is not traveling abroad, they find themselves busy at home without much time to cook gourmet meals. Thus, when considering the kitchen for their new dwelling, the homeowners desired at-their-fingertip access to gourmet wines, libations, coffees, and chocolates. Their only requirements: a bar and an open floor plan. Fully understanding their lifestyle, Matt Sbitani of MJA Design crafted a space that incorporates all these elements. Since their new home boasts high cathedral ceilings with ample natural light, the design begged warm contrast and definition. The designer drafted an airy floor plan to allow for large gatherings. They also incorporated rich Coffee Bean cherry cabinets to create definition, along with warm, modern elements to evoke a sense of organic, healthy living. Lift-up cabinet doors, glass-fronted drawers, and oversized hardware heighten the rooms drama. Fresh-brewed cappuccino flows from the built-in coffee station, and a full-size wine refrigerator brings memories of the homeowners international trips into the confines of their own home. And when the party lures guests to stay longer, a bar cabinet stocks fine spirits. Learn more about this designer at ww.mjadesign.com.

Ultra Contemporary Kitchen

Jan 2007

International assignments left this McLean, Virginia, homeowner with two major challenges: finding a way to actualize her vision inspired by travels abroad but not being home to plan her detailed project. Working across the ocean prevented her from sitting down with a designer and from visiting a showroom to choose her products. So she hired Matt Sbitani of MJA Design, Inc., who is experienced in virtual projects. The original layout lacked design and was extremely dysfunctional due to three doorways within the small space. By closing off one and leveling out a step-down floor to enlarge the kitchens footprint, Sbitani created a well-functioning workspace with a host of modern appliances and features. A wall of tall pantry cabinets created storage for all the precious china and crystal collected during the owners travels. And the built-in refrigerator hidden behind cabinet doors blends seamlessly into the space. Although the cabinetry line the owner admired was not in her budget, MJA Design teamed with Holiday Kitchens to create her desired cabinets, saving her budget without compromising on the design or product. The owners vision was made complete with other unique products, such as a reflective glass backsplash and quartzite counters. She was thrilled to finally have a space reflective of both her personality and the modern flair she has admired during her worldly travels.
