Custom Made His And Her's Private Office Furniture

Jan 2011

In August of 2011 the north east was hit by hurricane Irene. Northern New Jersey experienced major flooding. We were contacted, through the Custom Made web site, by a business owner who's office had experienced major damage due to flooding. Below are some pictures as to extent of the damage. The scope of the project involved duplicating the existing office furniture. The original work was quite involved and the owner was unsure as how to proceed. We scheduled an appointment and met to discuss what the options were and to see what might be able to be salvaged. The picture herein are the end result of that meeting. The bulk of the project is plain sliced Walnut veneer with a clear coat finish. One of the offices incorporates a Corian solid surface top which we were able to salvage. You will also see various custom lateral files, the drawers themselves constructed of Baltic birch plywood on full extension slides. Shelving units have a clear plain sliced Maple interior. Each office also has a custom made coat closet. The existing units were disassembled and taken back to our shop where we deconstructed them, remanufactured them and then reinstalled the new finished project.

Custom Asian Style Sofa

Jan 2010

The inspiration for this piece came from a book about Japanese farm houses called Minkas. Every component part is hand shaped and fitted together. Most a the joints are mortise and tennon. The arms have Chinese characters carved into them filled in with black epoxy. The finish is rustic capped off with four coats of Marine spar varnish. Upholstery is one thing we don't do but can have done for you.

Solid Oak Front entry Door

Jan 2010

Nothing about this door is box store thinking. The door, buck and side lights are one integral unit. We started with the idea of a raised panel door with a Medieval European motif and we could not be happier with the outcome. Nothing is standard size. The door itself measures 2 1/4" thick and is 6'-10" tall. The construction is all solid Red Oak. We used oversize, solid Brass hinges and carried the antique Brass theme to the Gargoyle knockers guarding the entrance left and right. A cross motif was also incorporated into the design using real stained glass panels. Believe it or not all of the component pieces to the door were soaked in boiled linseed oil for a month, then allowed to dry and then assembled and finally finished with several coats of premium polyurethane top coat.

Galley Kitchen

Jan 2010

A small galley kitchen in a tight space. Every vertical and horizontal inch was used in some way. The kitchen incorporated pull out pantry storage, pull out pot drawers, open shelving for books and nick knacks and a pull out tray storage unit. The glass panes in the hung cabinets have an applied film with a frosted finish. The film opens up a whole range of applications that glass alone doesn't. All drawers and doors have soft closing hardware.
