Chimney Tear down, and complete re-build.

Jul 2017

We were contracted to tear this chimney down, And re-build it. The size the chimney was originally, made it dangerous to the residents, as it only had a 3-1/2'' firewall. And despite the chimney being over 18' tall it had no structural reinforcement. We tore the chimney down brick by brick to preserve the bricks, and we then dug down and made the foundation 4' wider to leave ample space for the new firewall, as well as for the structural reinforcement.

House restoration & re-point - Ogden

Jun 2016

Painting brick, although becoming more popular recently, is terrible for brick, it creates a barrier for trapped moisture to stay in the walls and spread around, rather than allowing the walls to breath and properly vent. In many situations you will see painted masonry walls deteriorate faster than un-painted walls. Painting brick is not a solution to water intrusion and deterioration issues, paint is a band-aid that can cause more problems to your masonry and be expensive to remove and properly correct. Instead, it is better to address any water intrusion, and deterioration problems directly. and properly restore the brick-work to its original state. Below are a few pictures of a restoration job that we did 2 years ago, the owners wanted to paint the brick, because of water intrusion and deterioration issues, but after listening to their concerns for the project, and working with them, we were able to instead address the improper flashing that was causing water to drain on the brick, and the un-maintained sections of wall. Additionally we used a white mortar to re-point the entire house to give it a more appealing look. But any colored mortar can be used as well as a whole assortment of brick stains, to make hundreds of possible combinations, and to achieve your desired look while maintaining the essence and the life of the brickwork!
