An artist at heart, Mills also designs furniture, home decor, and works of art, bringing an unique combination of talents into her client's interiors that seamlessly integrate her warm inviting signature style with the drama of television to create beautiful timeless spaces that are one of a kind. "I feel so fortunate to have spent my childhood surrounded by art, literature, music, and textiles because that experience formed the basis for the interiors I design now: spaces full of light, color, texture and warmth that engage the senses and inspire the heart asserted Karen Mills. Mills was the first designer in K.C. to be invited to design a bathroom for Kohler's national design center, has been featured as a national color expert by Bob Vila, was the design chair for the Symphony Designers' Show House that won the 2010 National Award of Excellence, was selected to be on an international design panel, designed the first museum deaf living environment in the U.S., and was nominated for K.C.s Small Business of the Year in 2009, 2008 and 2007. And her commitment to the communities where she designs is clear. Besides the symphony, her volunteer work has included the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the city's Sustainability Task Force, the Chamber of Commerce Liaison Committee, TLC for Children, Team Impact, (an anti drug & alcohol youth program she got endorsed by the governor) and emceeing numerous charity events. Hollywood Glam Meets Contemporary | May 2012 | "As a songwriter there are words to me that just flow together; chords and notes that in mind naturally should follow. I look at a room like this and it makes me think of the art behind the music. With this room, I can't figure out how she does it, but when she does, you kind of stand back and think Wow! Yeah, that's it! How did she do that? So yes Karen, you are an artist at work and we love seeing the magic when it's all done." Michael Bascue | $20k | Leawood, KS |
