Mr. Clayton and purchased three cabinets from us. We did get the cabinets in within a week but did not schedule a delivery date with the customer. After the customer contacted us, we scheduled a time and I personally delivery the cabinet on the scheduled date but did had to re-schedule for a later time that same day. He even offered me a $20 tip for delivery of the cabinet which I decline because I am the owner. He cannot dispute that because he wrote a check for the tip and now has a void check.
Mr. Clayton did not informed us about his contactor is waiting for the cabinets other than saying his contactor is very busy and is delayed getting to his project, not because the cabinet was delivered late. He said that to me when I delivered the cabinets.
Mr. Clayton stated that his contractor told him since these are not custom made cabinets, he shouldn't have any problems returning it. Our policy is not based on what his contractor told him, our policy is cabinet cannot be return after it has been assembled. It's that simple. If customers purchase cabinets that doesn't fit and wants to return it, we'll have a warehouse full of returned cabinets. We are not a big box store. Yes, these are premade cabinets, not custom made to order. Our policy is once the cabinet is built and assemble, we do not take it back; doesn't matter if there were installed or not.
We did not measurement for these cabinets, measurements were given to us by the customer and then we gave the customer each of the cabinet's sizes. It is NOT our responsibility to make sure cabinets will fit but the customers. He did not purchase the cabinet the same day he came in. He took the sizes we gave him and come back a couple of days later to order. The cabinet sizes were the shortest cabinet we available, which was 30" tall. We put the cabinet together after Mr. Clayton placed the ordered.
Mr. Clayton came in a spoke to me (Steve) told me the cabinets he purchased did not fit the space as they are too tall. I told him we cannot take it back but can help him modify (by cutting the top or bottom or the cabinet) the cabinets about 1/2" but most likely that won't work. I made a few suggestions and tell him to talk to his contractor to see if it will work or not. Mr. Clayton then came back a few days later while I was not here and brought two of the cabinets back and told one of our salesperson (Rob) we have to take it back and get him new a cabinet or refund him. He told Rob that I said he can return them, which was not turn. Rob informed him to contact me to speak to me regarding the return/exchange. Rob gave him my business card which has my personal cell phone in it. Yes, I am always out and about and not always here in our store. We did not receive any voice message from the customer on my cell phone or company voice mail.
Mr. Clayton came back again a couple of days later and again, I was not in. He told Rob that if we do get back to him with a solution, there will be "hell". At the same time we told him we cannot take the return. I am sure that's his way of being nothing but courteous and polite. We do not take kind to threats, thus did not get back to him as well as not able to take the return or exchange.
I did call him after he complained to BBB. I explained to him that we cannot take cabinets back once it has been assembled but I want to see what we can do, maybe paying cost for the replacement. He just said you never told him that he cannot return them and hung up before we could go any further. I called back but no answers.
All of this is before he told us how nice and awesome we were after we delivered them. He even said he'll write up a 5 star review for us in Yelp.
