Phil and Sons Fencing

We hired Phil & Son’s to install side fences and gates. We were initially impressed with Phil during the estimate process compared to other vendors- communication was prompt and thorough. However, after putting through our deposit things changed. I had to follow up numerous times on the install date and timelines and they shifted a couple of times. Finally Phil told me they were ready to install and showed up to drop of the materials which were not what I had ordered. They planned to ‘saw off’ the top of a picket fence to make it a modified picket style. The quality of the cedar was also a lower grade than what was anticipated. Despite my reservations, I agreed to use the substituted product. The installation was.. fine. They initially installed the fence far too high allowing my dogs to slip under and I had to ask them to change out several poor quality pickets. Most importantly, we entrusted Phil to secure the permit for the job from our town as is standard with contractors. He never delivered the permit prior to install and still hasn’t produced the permit more than two months later, continuously claiming he would drop it off ‘next week’ before ceasing to respond altogether. I am very disappointed with the quality of work and shadiness we received. I highly recommend going with a more experienced fence contractor.
