Mabe's Home Improvement

My husband and I contracted Mabe's Home Improvement to build our deck in March 2015. We found him on facebook and was pleased with pictures of his work. Our deck was completed on April 6, 2015. We paid the balance in full not realizing the final inspection by the county had not been done. This is where our nightmare began. Our deck failed inspection. The plans that were approved by the county were not followed. We have spent the last 2 years trying to get Joe Mabe back out to correct the issues so our deck could pass inspection. We have called, emailed, facebook messaged, sent messages through the company website, sent text messages and still do not have the situation corrected. Joe set up times to come out and fix the deck several times only to notify us last minute that something came up and he would not be able to make it. For a while Joe stated he was not able to get a response back from the county so I facilitated emails connecting all parties together to try and get this situation rectified. Eventually I stopped receiving responses back from Mabe's Home Improvement. We are now having to seek legal council and get quotes from other companies to see how much it will cost to fix this contractor's mistakes. Please, if you are looking to do business with this company, make sure you protect yourself as a homeowner. Please learn from our regretful experience.

I saw this company's info on a site Amelia County sellers. I called and asked for a quote to sand and repaint our deck and front porch. I was assured the hand sanding would be enough and he would guarantee his work. He suggested a different paint other than the one that was previously used, telling us it was a better product. Within a few months the deck was in as bad a shape as it was. the paint was peeling all over. I have tried repeatedly to get him to return my calls and a couple of those times spoke with his girlfriend who promised he would get back to us. So far, over the last five months, he refuses to call us. We spent well over $1000 for NOTHING. So disappointed in Joe Mabe. We would NEVER recommend him and are considering legal action to recoup our $$$ since he obviously has no intention of fixing this.
