Suzette has been in the landscape industry for over 10 years. Prior to that she owned a cut floral business in San Francisco for 13 years which gave her a good foundation in horticulture. She is originally from Los Angeles and now resides in El Dorado Hills, CA with her three children. Suzette started her landscape career as a landscape contractor/designer working with California Backyards pool division in 2004 when people still had equity to build pools and the drought problem was not yet an issue. While working with California Backyards, she learned all phases of hardscape design and eventually became the "in-house" landscaper for the pool division. By providing a design and estimate for all phases of hardscape and softscape on new and renovation installations, home owners were able to know exactly how much the whole project would run rather than just installing a pool and then trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the backyard once the pool was installed. This worked well until the economy began to struggle and the drought issue became imminent. Suzette then redirected to drought resistant landscapes and earned her credential as a certified green landscaper. The new objective was to help people reduce their reliance on water for their landscapes. By removing sod and replacing it with more drought tolerant alternatives, the objective was to create outdoor space that was an extension of indoor style and served a function without offending the environment. Functional yard space may include - Ornamental vineyards, bocce courts, fire pit areas, raised vegetable boxes and serenity zones. As the drought situations continues, it is Suzette's hope that more homeowners will take this seriously and consider altering their yard space to reflect the current conditions of our environmental challenges.
