Today, a technician came out to diagnose an issue before our furnace totally stopped working. Over the weekend we were alerted to something being wrong based on a hot smell coming through an air vent and we were trying to be proactive. During the 14 minute “diagnostic” visit, the tech said he was unable to find anything wrong. He then said “he’s just going to replace the control board anyway”. I asked him how much that was and he said “it’s pretty expensive”. I had to AGAIN ask how much it was to get a straight answer on the cost. He told me about $500. So, let me get this straight. You want me to spend $500 on a control board when you’re not sure what the issue is? AND I’m already paying for a diagnostic fee (in which you couldn’t diagnose the issue) while you took no less than 3 other phone calls while in my home. Seems like horrible attention to detail and shabby customer service to me. We’ve happily been patrons of your services in the best, but I can assure you - never, ever again. If I hadn’t stopped the technician, I would have had a $600 bill and been no closer to a repair. Oh, and as the technician was leaving, he snootily said, “guess I can’t fix it and we’ll have to wait for it to break indefinitely.” No, sir. The idea was to actually diagnose before just throwing parts and money at a problem. So much for being proactive and “diagnosing”. I felt/feel swindled. Today was an example of crooked business practices and I urge others to stay away.
