I asked Cliff for a quote. He at first said he wouldn't quote over the phone. I didn't care, plenty of other will and ill use them. The next day Cliff sends me a ballpark quote. It was higher then most the other quotes i had gotten. So i moved on with other people. He then messaged me that evening again "goodluck to you" so i thought i was being rude by not responding. So i said " Sorry i messaged quite a few. I have a guy coming to look tonight that said he can do 4500 for a cedar fence". Cliff had quoted $5200 for pine, and stated tearing and hauling away the old fence was extra. So the other guy was cheaper and better materials. what would you do? So cliff responds "Whatever I gave you a price of 4500 without even looking at the fence that's pretty pretty amazing" Ummm 4500? Not really... it was 292 feet and you said $18 a foot... so $5256 + tear down and haul away..... i responded "That was also pine and 18x292 is $5256" This is where he losses me. I have no idea how he took what i was saying out of context. All i was telling him is exactly why i wasn't responding. The other guy was a better deal. Here is the full conversation. ME:How much for 292 feet of stained pine? Quite a few trees close by so will hit roots, also has an existing chain length to remove. Roughly how much please Cliff:Hello if you would like a quote you need to call me tomorrow and set up a time for me to come out and take a look that's the only way a quoteprices thank you. Cliff:Good morning we only install fence we don't stain fences. I do charge $18.00 per ft for treated pine fence materials. Plus I do charge to remove the old fence Cliff: but I would need an address so I can go by and take a look I need to have a visual. I can help let me know my name is Cliff I own the business Cliff:Good luck to you Me:Sorry i messaged quite a few. Just had a $4500 Cliff's fence installed. Too much space is needed to explain this complete process, so let me just list the good and bad: Good: Cliff uses plated screws instead of nails—outstanding. He agreeded to build the wooden fence as I asked, which was exactly like the 20 year old one replaced—great customer service. Price, right in line with others. Bad: Cliff does not do the work, he hires Subs. This would be OK but is not because he does not monitor or direct that the work be done correctly. My finished fence looked great until I took a closer inspection (after I had paid however). All cross braces that the pickets attach to were screwed to the upright 4/4 posts with one screw only. I found a dozen of these screws to be the short 1 1/4 inch picket screws. I found a half dozen cross braces that fit tightly with no screws holding them in place at all. Probably two dozen or more of the 4 inch pickets were not screwed to the upper or lower cross braces at all (one screw holding the 6 foot picket to one cross brace. The bottom 1/4 inch board that runs along the ground was placed so high that a 2 inch gap Was open under most of the fence. The fence pickets were so green they warped and shrunk showing gaps within a week of completion. Repair: when I texted Cliff about the green wood pickets, he started a tirade of texts about me bitching plus numerous other insulting texts until I told him "Stop, you have said enough". Then just blocked his phone number to put a stop to it all. I have bought $200 worth of 1/6 inch cedar boards, cut and replaced the 4 inch bottom boards that hovered 2 inches above the ground, Also bought exterior 2 1/2 and 3 inch screws, pilot drilled and double screwed all the horizontal 2/4 picket braces. There were a number of other things done incorrectly that I caught during the construction. The contractor Cliff Anderson should have been the quality control officer, not me. If you have the knowledge of fence building and the time to watch the whole construction process and don’t mind being the supervisor you can probably get a quality wooden fence built with screws. Otherwise, I can not recommend Cliff's Fence. Howard
