Nautical Inspired Master Bath

Feb 2014

It was the kind of bathroom that hurt your eyes to look at whether you were a designer or not. The kind of bathroom that is neither beautiful nor functional. My clients live on the water and love to boat. They wanted to feel the expansiveness and energy of the sea in their cozy bathroom. They wanted natural light to greet them every time they walked into the room. We had our task cut out for us: a 12.5 x 5.9 room that required a touch of class mixed with a lot of functionality. We started with the floor plan. By redesigning the space we allowed for a larger shower, better functioning storage and more counter surface. To bring in more light we strategically placed one large mirror opposite the door and windows in the adjoining bedroom. This reflected light from the bedroom back into the space. Watery hues in the glass tiles evoked the sea-like feel my clients desired. The tiles seem to ripple just like the ocean. Couple this with river rock tiles in the shower and ceramic wood tiles that mimic well-worn driftwood and my clients almost feel like they are outdoors. A touch of luxury was added with a rain shower head. The final touches of nautical flair are the brass pendant lights. These bring in the look of antique ship lights to each sink.

Spa Inspired Master Bath

Jun 2012

My client wanted a bathroom that combined rustic and refined with traditional and modern. They envisioned a spa-retreat that would simultaneously relax them and serve their day-to-day needs. The enlarged steam shower is spacious and heavenly. Glass panels bring in natural light while chrome fixtures add their own sparkle. When the couple steps out of the shower they are greeted by a towel warmer and radiant floor heat. A claw foot tub , and crystal chandelier add feminine and whimsical touches. Recycled stained glass accent tiles in watery hues bring peaceful color into to the space. Porcelain tiles on the floor and shower mimic marble, enhancing the luxurious feel. The final bit of panache is a custom stencil on the walls. The combination of a metallic striee and baroque stencil sets this bathroom apart and perfectly combines the traditional and modern aesthetic the client desired. The client now has a mini-resort, just steps away from their bedroom.
