K&C Painting

Concerning my personal experience with K&C, New Market, AL, I’ll present three major points that might help anybody decide if they want to deal with them. 1. The owner doesn’t finish work he is paid to do. K&C was contracted to paint our house exterior trim. Work started April 24, 2019. The work was near completion May 1. The owner was here (most days he did not make an appearance) and wanted to be paid. With just a few hours left in the job I saw no problem paying before the job was completed (I will never do that again, believe me). Within minutes of the owner receiving his money, his head painter spilled all the paint needed to finish the job in the driveway. I have a large white paint stain on the pavement to remind me of that event. The head painter told me he would return the following Sunday at 11 AM to finish the job. He showed up Sunday six hours late and in no condition to work, no condition to do anything. Nothing was accomplished. After that, the head painter sent me, over a period of 3-4 weeks, numerous text messages saying he would be here such and such day and time. He never showed up, just promises. I never saw him again. I contacted the owner and he came by once and completed some of the undone work and never returned or contacted me again. The owner had been paid in full and obviously thought there was nothing else to be gained by working this job further. In September I hired another painting contractor. They completed the work and did a commendable job. 2. Without your knowledge or consent, the owner records conversations with you on his hidden cell phone. The owner threatened me with this information in a text message to me when I contacted him to finish the job he had been paid to do. The purpose of these recordings is to use them against you in a court of law if it should go that far. The only problem with his bogus recorded “evidence” is that it was made while the work was still ongoing. I could hardly express total satisfaction in a job that was not complete. It was never completed by him. Making recordings without notification and consent is an underhanded way of doing business and strongly suggests intended deception by the company. 3. After the work started, the owner asked me if I wanted some addition pressure washing. He verbally told me the price and I verbally agreed, another mistake with these people. When it came time to pay the bill, the price had magically increased $100. I didn’t say anything because, at that point, I wanted him and his crew off my property. Reading reviews on BBB the owner increased the price upward after work was started with another customer and the customer complained. The business owner threatened a property lien if the customer did not pay. If you want to have fun like this, employ these people. If you enter into a contract with this company get everything in writing and get the owner’s signature on all estimates. Otherwise, his paperwork is worthless. Beware of his invoices as they are filled with pricing inconsistencies. Do not take anything for granted with this operation. There are other issues such as lack of consideration for your schedule and sloppy work habits of the crew. I’ve been asked by neighbors for a recommendation and I cannot give one for K&C Painting. Look elsewhere.
