We had PAX Contracting / 888-Roofers replace our roof following some storm damage, and they seemed to do a fine job with that (although we ended up having to go around them to get both of our names registered on the warranty). Following that project, though, we decided to use them to add a screened porch to the house and it’s been (in our opinion) a monumental project management failure. We made the initial payment in December 2020. Work began in January 2021 and was expected to take a few months. First, they nearly built the room too short, which would have had the load on one side resting next to the poured concrete footing rather than on top of it. The framing was completed and passed rough inspection that month, but the structure did not have a roof and we expressed concern over possible water intrusion. After two months of inactivity, two significant rain water intrusion events, and repeated requests on our part, they finally added the roof. After repeated no-shows, electrical work commenced in May 2021. We spoke to co-owner Deryk on June 15 to express frustration at the unreasonably slow pace of progress and the lack of communication as to anticipated progress. Deryk agreed that the project was not proceeding as it should have, and led us to believe that we would have gutters installed by the end of the week and the project would be completed in its entirety by July 4. Gutters were actually installed two weeks after our discussion, on June 29. The anticipated completion date of July 4 came and went. After failing to respond to repeated emails and phone calls, they informed us in writing that “Everything has been ordered and we will be completed this job no longer than Aug 3-4th.” On July 14 2021, progress next came in the form of installing siding. We had discussed in January 2021 that insulating board would be added to that wall prior to the installation of siding, but that did not occur. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in August 2021, but the BBB was unable to even get a response from PAX. In October 2021, 120-volt receptacles were incorrectly installed to support 240-volt infrared heaters. As of this writing, it is June 2022, well over a year since the start of work, and we have had to bring in a different contractor to finish the job because PAX no longer responds to our communications. We have been very patient with them, and some of the delays have been due to setbacks that were at least partially outside of their control, but they have repeatedly failed to make progress, to follow instructions, and even to report status in a regular and timely manner. And there can be no excuse for the project still being incomplete after more than a year. On the basis of this experience, we really cannot recommend PAX Contracting, especially for anything outside their core specialty of roofing. And two months with an incomplete roof leave us questioning whether they can even be trusted with that.
