Mike DiFoggio came highly recommended by my homeowners association (Oak Hills in Palos Heights, IL). Since my first experience with him was exceptional, I hired him again to replace a toilet seat and fix a suspected toilet leak (replace a valve). His young apprentice was assigned this simple task, and he came prepared a toilet valve. Unfortunately, it did not fit. The young did install a new toilet seat which I had previously purchased. He claimed that he "fixed' the leak by jiggling the toilet chain. He then issued a bill for his 15 minutes of labor (I timed him) totaling $80. Keep in mind, this is a young apprentice for a plumber who lives and works in Palos Heights, where I live. As expected, the leak issue persisted. I left a message for Mr. Difoggio informing him that the leak was not fixed, and I wanted it to be fixed. He did not trouble himself to return my first phone call, but he did trouble himself to cash my check that evening. I attempted to call him on 2 occasions the next day; he did not pick up his phone. He finally returned my phone call after my fiancee, Jack Murray (yes, editor of the Regional News) left him a message to return my call. Mr DiFoggio claimed that I had primarily requested the toilet seat to be replaced, the leak was a secondary concern. Even if I stated the toilet seat first, common sense would dictate that a leak is more important. He responded in effect, that was my opinion. MY OPINION? What kind of plumber doesn't think a leak is more important than a worn toilet seat? In any case, I told him that I could have hired my handy man to replace a toilet seat - I didn't need a plumber. He then invited me to hire my handyman (with a noticeably disrespectful attitude in his tone). He further complained about his health and the fact that I did not pay cash (because his assistant could not provide change). It is very sad to see a good man lose his moral compass. I will be praying for you Mr. DiFoggio. In the meanwhile, consumers PLEASE BEWARE!
