Historic Druid Hills Addition | Jun 2013 | The Keenan Residence speaks for the unique aspects of the Eco Custom Homes portfolio. The residence is located in the Druid Hills Historic District, one of Atlanta, Georgias oldest neighborhoods. The residence was built in 1920s and still retains many of its charming characteristics. Eco Custom Homes of Atlanta noticed a great opportunity to provide the Keenan with a functional, family-oriented addition of a mudroom with plenty of storage for the active familys outdoor gear, a laundry room and a cozy den with a high efficiency insert fireplace. The result is a 650 sq. ft. rear addition to this house including spacious cabinetry made from local storm-felled trees and quarter-sawn oak that added on to the historic charm of the house. Adding an exterior stone patio, pond and a built-in outdoor grill enlarged the outdoor living area. Eco Custom Home took the green approach further by installing a 1700-gallon rainwater harvest underground for use of the extensive landscaping of the residence. The client also required solar hot water to be added to the house. Eco Custom Homes also installed natural wool insulation in the walls and added sub-slab insulation under the floor slab to further increase performance of this addition. The high performance fireplace was built from brick matching the existing space, heating up the entire house. The final result was a space marrying the past to the present and future that serves the clients expectations, which is the ultimate goal. | $300k | Atlanta, GA | |
