This guy will scam you! We hired him to paint the exterior of our house. He would show up for 1-2 hours at a time and then disappear for days or weeks. At one point, he claimed to have a family emergency and asked for a partial advance of the cost. We paid him, which was a mistake. He stopped showing up. We tried to follow up multiple times. On top of that, the painting that he did complete was terrible quality. We should’ve fired him a lot sooner. We looked him up and he has a couple lawsuits against him in CO for breach of contract, so it seems like he’s done this before. Stay away and do not hire Gary Renfro!

My husband and I hired Renfro and Sons Maintenance to do a complete remodel of our bathroom. He came highly recommended by a colleague of mine (one of his son's). I figured I'd rather pay someone I know and support their family business then some stranger in the yellow pages. We gave him a deposit on 12/16/2020. He then told us he got Covid. Demo started 02/10. At time of demo, which we paid in full at the time including haul away, they dumped all the debris on our side yard without clearing it with us first and left the gate open. They also tracked the drywall dust and debris from the upstairs bathroom downstairs and out the front door and didn't clean it up. After an additional week of work they had replaced and moved the plumbing for the new tub, which they had to do twice because they measured the tub wrong the first time, installed cement board in the tub/shower area, installed drywall in the rest of the bathroom, and had started taping and mudding the drywall. I got home after work on Friday 02/19/21 and was extremely discouraged at the lack of progress. They only show up to work 2-3 hrs per day, and in 2 hrs that Friday the 3 of them only accomplished taping and mudding some of the drywall. The bathroom is 8' x 5'. Then I starting looking closer at the work done, and I found serveral issues. I hired another contractor to come look at the bathroom the very next day. The tub is installed incorrectly, and will have to be removed and reinstalled. To do that the cement board has to be removed, which is good because it was installed with regular drywall screws instead of galvanized. The drywall that butts up to the concrete board has big gaps in some places, and raised edges in others. The drywall is not installed with the proper amount of screws either. Everything they have done so far has to be redone. So now we are out almost $3,000 and have to hire someone else to fix/redo and finish the job, and haul away all the debris he left in our side yard. He told us he did everything to his abilities, and that we were just taking the word of the other contractor. I really wish I could upload pictures here to show the lack of workmanship and inexperience this company has. There should also be an option to select zero stars.

Undesirably, I ended up being my own foreman. Even with the hand-holding, there was only a 50% chance specifically mentioned items were completed. He said he'd power-wash and didn't. I had spider-webs, thick dirt, dryer lint, dead leaves/sticks on my house sprayed over with paint. Very little priming/nail pops were done, although that was also in the contract. The handful of nail-pops that were done, were not "struck" flat, so they just looked messy. Scraping was not done. I had many areas where chunks of old paint as large as 4" x 15" (yes, inches!) were pulled off the house easily by hand AFTER he painted them. Taping was not done. When I reminded him of taping in the contract, 50% of applicable work the next day was taped. I mentioned scraping and only one of the two places I mentioned as an example was scraped the next day - nothing else was. He didn't work a full day. I was told it would be finished in 4-5 days (2-3 weather permitting) and 10 days later (weekdays only) the house was about 75% covered with one very poor coat of paint. On day 8, he said he'd be done in two days, which was the 3rd end date I'd been given. Witnesses verified that he was there for only a short time on the days he came. Multiple people near the house came and mentioned the poor job he was doing. There is no pride or standard in this work. Now I know why his deposit was so high. The replacement painters I hired were shocked at what wasn't done and the length of time it had taken him. They said he had done "no prep". Since there is another negative review for this company out there and the Co. response claims the reviewer was "harassing" them, it is important to mention that once I was confident the work was stopped, per my request (eating the loss of the deposit) there was no further communication in either direction. It is unfortunate that I will be less likely to give a small, family-owned business a chance in the future because of this example.
