My complaint revolves around this company's failure to inform me that there was a $155 charge just to send someone out, regardless of whether they do anything or not when I made the appointment. I would not have made the appointment had I been told that. The technician, who was very nice, was at our home for 8 minutes, only to confirm something that we knew: that the key was stuck in the cylinder and would not turn. He could not solve the problem, and did not mention anything about the charge to come out, nor did he have me sign anything. Later that day, we got a call that we owed $155 for the visit. We had used this same company 19 months previously to re-key all the locks on our house, and they claimed that because of that visit, and because "of the standard charge in the industry", that I should have known that the fee to make the appointment was $155. They went back and checked the phone recording of the appointment I made, and admitted that the person making the appointment did not inform me of the charge, but claimed that "it is the customer's responsibility to ask what the visit charge will be". When I called to complain that the fee was incredibly excessive for what was done ($1162.50/hour!), the business manager, who was extremely argumentative (at this point, admittedly so was I, but no insults, cursing, or name calling was done by either side) grudgingly reduced the fee to $90, saying "that was an awesome deal, otherwise I would have to pay $155 and court fees if they send it to collections". I said that was still $675/hour, and felt it remained unreasonable (I was not expecting the visit to be free, and was willing to be flexible). She insisted she gives "excellent customer service", but refused to answer my question: "Do you think it is excellent customer service to not inform a customer what the fee is for someone from your company to come out?". In fact, she answered my question with a question (always a poor thing to do in customer relations): "Don't you think a customer needs to ask a company how much it costs to send someone out?". I do not, and everyone I know who I have related this incident to does not either. I will not be using this company again, primarily because they had evidence that I was correct that I was not informed of the charge when I made the appointment, but spinned the story to lay the blame on me. That's dishonest, and I am not interested in giving business to a company that bullies their customers.
