After only 3 months, my fence and gates are warped in many places, all 3 of my gates have issues with closing smoothly, all 3 of the gates are dragging on the ground, the top boards that cover the tops of the fence boards are literally falling off, one bolt that goes into the ground to hold the back gate closed wasn’t even installed. The one bolt that was installed was put BETWEEN the 2 gates (it’s a double gate), allowing anyone from the outside to simply slide their finger between the gates and pull the bolt out. Someone has already done this and stolen hundreds of dollars of stuff from my shed. I could go on with more problems, but these are the worst issues. When I emailed Josh about these issues, he said to send him pics. I did. Then he NEVER responded. I then texted him several times and emailed him several times, and still no response. I didn’t know what to think, so I told him if he’s not going to respond then I have to call the BBB. Of course THEN he responded, and said that I was threatening him. But what is a customer to do if they can’t get the company to come and honor their warranty?? I believe that is the entire point of the BBB. When he finally came to look at all of these issues, I got a ton of “oh that’s normal” and “well the boards were moist and when they dry they shrink” - except he told me before installing the fence (while he was still vying for my business) that the boards wood be practically waterproof and that rain and water wouldn’t affect the wood until many years had passed. I even paid to have extra stain/waterproofing applied to keep the fence from having water damage. I had some trees that needed cutting back before the fence could go in, and Josh said his guys could do it. Well, they hacked away at the branches and now the branches behind those that were removed have no support whatsoever, and those long branches are falling down onto my fence. They clearly don’t know how to prune trees the right way, yet to get more money they said they could. The kicker here, is that after all of his ignoring me and making me angry because he was ignoring me, he said I was being aggressive. Well, I was angry, so yeah - my voice and body language was probably showing that, but who wouldn’t be angry?? Customers come in all different types, and if a customer is angry because of shoddy work, you probably shouldn’t go around calling THEM aggressive since your behaviors caused them to be angry. So after him calling me names and basically outright saying he didn’t want to work for me, I had zero faith that he would give a rat’s patootie about my fence. I also didn’t want to have to pester him 500 times to get him to come and actually fix it, only for him to call me “agressive” for doing so. So he isn’t coming anywhere near my fence now, and I’ll have to hire someone else to come and fix his shoddy work. I don’t think I have EVER given a 1-Star review, but I had to share my story. I put up with a lot of nonsense from contractors, because good ones are hard to find, and in the end you just want them to do a good job. Well, Keep looking. This guy ONLY wants customers who won’t complain when his work is noticed to be shoddy. That just isn’t me. If that makes me “agressive” then so be it.

I hired JW Builders for a deck resurfacing. Pros • The actual deck surface was done beautifully. • The wood he chose is gorgeous. • Josh is very nice and easy to get along with. Cons • The deck railings are not perfectly parallel, nor are the flat tops of the railings. I asked him to correct it once, and he made several adjustments, but he did not use a level and several of the ribs are not lined up. • He used untreated wood, saying that he would first build the deck then apply a wood treatment or stain. He never did this. After contacting him repeatedly, he finally said he would return to apply the treatment but that it would cost extra. • He did not fully attach the flat tops of the railings and did not complete the finish work, including the trim where the deck meets the house. I ended up having to hire someone else at an additional cost (although less than what JW quoted) to come and finish the deck. It was certainly my fault that I paid him the balance of the contract before he finished. On the whole, I would not recommend JW Builders, and warn that if you do use them that you do not pay them the final installment until the very last task is complete.

Thanks for the outstanding work JW Builders. The new covered walkway from the garage to the house is awesome and looks great. I get asked all the time about it and passed your name on to them. Top notch work and professionalism.

I contacted Porch to find a handyman to replace the caulking in my Master shower. Josh called me the same day to schedule my project. He was able to come out the next day and complete the work. Josh was timely, professional, and affordable. I was very comfortable with him and have asked him to quote a few other projects that need to be done around our house. We will definitely be using him again.
