Menlo Park Remodel | Jan 2014 | A 1500 sq. ft addition underneath a Ranch Style 1970's house. The addition included an open space layout including a Living Room Area with a built-in Kitchenette/Bar, an Office, a Bathroom and a multi-purpose room. The tailored design was created as a modern "man cave", for a sophisticated businessman to retreat to, work, watch TV, and entertain (women are allowed... sometimes). The monochromatic, cool and calm color scheme follows that of the main residence above. The Bathroom is seamless with a curb-less sloping drain and a wall hung custom vanity. State of the art remote controlled gas fireplace and lighting were also installed. | Menlo Park, CA
Atherton Mansion | Jan 2013 | We were hired to furnish this grand mansion in Atherton, complementing and adding to the clients antiques and art work. A custom Dining Chair (The Ovale Arm & Side), as well as the Sofas, built-in banquette in the Study, and the Foyer Table (Faceted Atlas) were all designed especially for this project. Sumptuous window treatments throughout (English Hardware is Bradley Collection); fabrics by Prismatek. Antique Asian art effects, adding an exotic touch were purchased by the designer on travels to Burma. | Atherton, CA
Kent Woodlands Remodel | Jan 2013 | While working on a complete interior remodel of a 1980's design located in the distinguished Kent Woodlands community, Ruth Livingston was tasked with creating a comfortable atmosphere for family and entertaining, using the magnificent outdoors as a background. The property is uniquely situated on a flat hilltop lot with complete privacy and unobstructed views of Mount Tamalpais. The challenge was to keep as much of the original architectural design as possible, yet avoid a dated feeling; to add Livingston's edgy handcrafted detailing throughout (note the steel elements: Living Room fireplace, display shelving), yet maintain elegance and luxury. Overall, Livingston achieved a natural flow of color and material, integrating the owners' collectibles from international travel with the Ruth Livingston Studio's site specific custom designed furniture. The clients were delighted with a unique, timeless design that artfully balances form and function. Noteworthy is the fact that most of the furniture items are originals, created specifically for this home, and everything but the custom woven Tibetan Rugs were handmade in the SF Bay Area. This project is a perfect example of Livingston's commitment to collaborating with the local arts and crafts community, her dedication to sustainability, and her commitment to the concept of giving new life to quality pieces. | Kentfield, CA |
