Lee DeLeary. Independent contractor

I hired Lee, who presents himself as an independent contractor, to fix a leak in my shower and retile it and paint a baby nursery (a project I could've done alone but the stress of the leak and the necessity to hire him prompted to ask that he take care of the room, too). I bought all of my supplies. Lee asked for a deposit which I foolishly provided, in a rush to care for the leak. Lee took 7 days to do the nursery (one drywalled wall and paint), had 6-8 workers in and out of my house to do so, and left the room with drywall and drywall tape showing through, a drywall job that was not flat or smooth but wavy, paint all over my woodwork, one coat applied under painter's tape that will require half the room to be repainted, painter's tape left up all over, drywall dust and paint showing around all of the edges, and no touch ups on two toned walls, meaning that the effect is messy as all get out. Lee is now changing the terms of the agreement after I said I could not have him do the tile work in my bathroom given what I saw in just his drywall and painting skills. He is refusing to return $450 of my money and feels is owed a total of $860 for doing the nursery at a less than amateur level. Again, I purchased all of his supplies. Lee is withholding my money which he deposited into his "assistant's" (Genevieve Castaneda) personal bank account. DO NOT HIRE HIM. I also found a previous legal case against him in the state of Missouri for collecting and misappropriating a woman's insurance policy money. Lee talks a good game but is a total fraud.
