The Front Porch remodel was one of our favorite projects thus far. We worked with a really great local company that provides boutique lodging in down town Boise. This property was built in the early 1900's and was last remodeled in the 70's. We knew there was original hardwood underneath three layers of vinyl tile and particle board, we just didn't know what condition they would be in! Once we had peeled back the layers of old flooring the hardwoods were in beautiful shape, all the vinyl had preserved the wood. We sanded and sealed the hardwoods throughout the unit choosing to keep the natural color of the wood as an homage to the history of the floor. The old cabinets and poor layout were updated to reflect what a modern kitchen would need to be functional. We decided to make a standard L shape kitchen to maximize counter space in this small kitchen (only 10X11). The new cabinets are from Ikea including the hardware. The countertop is one of our custom Granicrete countertops. It consists of a fortified grout poured over a laminate substrate then sealed with epoxy. We chose to go with a solid color to achieve a modern poured concrete look without any of the weight or difficulty cleaning and maintaining that comes with a poured concrete counter.
