On November the 15th, I posted on Facebook Marketplace to find a LOCAL company to hire to deliver a dump truck load of gravel and spread it out at one of my property's driveway. I always try to do business with locally owned companies as I want to support the local community. Brandon contacted me via FB messenger and offered to do the job. I explained that I needed a truckload of crushed granite GRAVEL to be delivered. His original quote was $340 for the stone. I responded that I needed 16-20 tons and the price went to $460 and $180 to spread THE STONE. I said that would be fine. On November 15th he contacted me again via messenger and said he could do it the next day. I messaged him on November 16th and told him it was a rental property and he would need to CALL ME to coordinate since it was occupied. I also stated I wanted LARGE GRAVEL not Pea gravel. I messaged him twice on the 16th and asked him to call me. He messaged me on the morning of the 17th and told me he was ready to do the job. I explained that the house was occupied and I would get with him the next day. On the 17th, I again sent him a message asking him to call me. He stated that he could do the job that day and I told him that I would not be available and he said "Don't worry, I'll get it done and send you an invoice. I told him that would be fine. Late in the day, I finally had time to go to the property. He was leaving the neighborhood gate as I pulled up to the gate. I got out, he told me it was all done and I wrote him a check for the full amount and he gave me his card. I drove up to the house only to find that he spread NOT GRAVEL but DIRT. The reason I needed the gravel was the driveway was getting muddy after it rained!! I immediately called him and he told me that I ordered DIRT! I told him to read the messages that I had sent him on several occasions stating the need for GRAVEL and a specific gravel at that. He told me "Too bad, it's delivered" I asked him if he could get a load of gravel as I requested and he told me that it would be $800 MORE!! I asked him if he would work with me on the price and he said that is what it will cost. I called around after that and found that I can get a load of gravel delivered and spread for $600. I fully understand that he MAY have been mistaken about the gravel and didn't read the multiple messages I sent him but he COULD and SHOULD have accepted even partial responsibility. He refused to even work with me to find a resolution. I decided to put a stop payment on the check in order to have him contact me to discuss it. I have NEVER done that before. He called me and called me a scammer and said he was going to file a lien on the property and file a civil lawsuit. I told him that I don't have time for this crap and I paid him in full for the 16 tons of DIRT!
