My family met with EcoScape Environmental Design in connection with some updates we wanted for our backyard. The company portrayed themselves as being a full service firm, from design to implementation. After going over scope of project and budget of no more than $15k, we were pitched a design engagement as a first step. This design engagement came with a price tag of $1800 and was viewed as a critical component in the process. After a visit to the location and two zoom calls, the company prepared a design plan. Unfortunately, the plan delivered had no regard to the actual budget that we discussed. In fact, the price to complete the project on the plan was over double our budget ($31,439.97). In response, we tried to scale back items that we were originally discussed in connection with the scope to try to get the price down to an amount that was consistent with our original budget, but the company decided that they may not be the right fit for the project anymore. As a result, we asked the company to refund the "design" fee of 1800 given that the design produced was worthless given the discussed budget. Rather than refunding design fee, the company took the position that per the engagement letter, they produced a design and therefore the fee was owed. Such a position leaves consumers vulnerable to this bait and switch tactic as the company can produce whatever design they like at whatever cost notwithstanding the consumer's discussed budget and the "design" fee would still be owed. As a fully integrated company handling design and installation, this miscommunication between design and pricing should never occur unless it is done on purpose to get people to spend more on a project as they already have invested money with the company.

If I could give this outfit negative points I would. They work next door to my simple 2 bedroom home in north Boulder. Never have I endured such a horrific disturbance to my once-peaceful space. I have to leave my house for any calm and quiet. They have destrroyed the peace of our neighborhood for 2 months. My neighbors are also shocked by the huge mess and sympathize. There is mud all over the street in front of the house being worked on. There are construction vehicles parked up and down our simple cul-de-sac. In front of MY house there is a large open wheeled platform full of old lumber with logs sticking haphazardly into the narrow street. Boards are dumped in my side yard and the workers walk across my space to access their vehicles. The workers play irritating aggressive music loud enough to be heard in my bedroom at the other side of the house. The workers stare and leer at me--a retired woman--when I exit my house. The workers produce clouds of blowing silica rock dust that enters my yard. I have asthma, and I and my pet flock are adversely affected. The company declined to take any dust abatement procedure. The owners of the house being worked on are never home when this work is being done. This is a horrible experience, which will continue to divide our neighborhood after this project is done. Ecoscape has been reckless in its pursuit of this project--not minding its negative affect on my neighborhood.
