This company and the owner Ray Garza is the worst building company I have ever dealt with! Hired them to built our home had to stay on top of the conduction from start to finish. They made numerous errors throughout the process where I was forced to contact the contractor to return numerous times and fix the problems they created. Contractor does not stay on top of his workers to do the job correctly the first time and only comes afterwards when you complain about the poor job they did. Then when he comes, he does patch up jobs which are poorly done which what he basically does is puts bandaids on the problem instead of calling back his workers to fix it correctly. He is unreliable and untrustworthy. We have now had our house for 3 months after closing and still having construction issues. Every time it rains, we get water that comes in from the walls and one of the doors, in which we're still fighting to get him to fix correctly! CAUTION: DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!

Ray Garza contracted with my 92 year old Grandmother (the widow of a World War 2 veteran) to remodel and add on a restroom and closet. Ray has collected $13,000 of the $14,000 bid provided by my grandfather's pension with the military and fire department. Ray has stated that he will no longer return to complete this job because my Grandmother is too picky and complains about the work which is all valid due to the lack of quality and deception of this contractor. Ray Garza said we can keep the last $1,000 to finish the job. This job could end up costing twice as much as the first bid depending on what all we have to tear out which could be everything. We are in hurricane area and I imagine I will find many more issues as we start to rip out these walls to get the inspections completed by the city. Ray Garza has unlicensed electricians leaving fire hazard situations by doing unsafe work and I imagine he doesn't use licensed people for anything. His tile guys might be using a hacksaw or chisel to cut tile because it is jagged and the edges look like a serated knife. Ray only had the foundation inspected by the city but continued to close up the walls and ceilings without getting all the inspections done. He refused to answer phone calls, text messages. He will not refund the money so we can open the walls back up and rip out all the horrible, unsafe, not up to code and unethically done work. It looks like he found a few kids on the side of the road gave them some tools and said have at it. I have contacted the Cheif Building Officer with the building department and he has put a stop order on Ray Garza of Gemstar Homes and Construction. Run away from Gemstar Homes and Construction from Brownsville TX because he will rip you off!!

One of the best experience we have had....Ray does what he says completes his work quickly... He built us a beautiful home in about three months...We had no idea what we were doing and he was helpful in every aspect...
