Water line leak detection and repair! On this service call the home owner knew he had a water line leak due to an outrageous water bill and wanted the leak located and repaired. This water line however, was 220 feet long! Where to start, huh? Here is how American Water Line Restoration was able to determine where the water line failed at and repair the line... all within 4 hours!! Step one: Leak detection. We shut the city meter off to give us a closed circuit, with the house now isolated we charged the plumbing lines with helium via an outside hose bib. With the meter off and all fixtures in the house closed there was only one way for the now pressurized system to release water... through the leak! We used our underground sonar equipment to listen for the leak, blue X marks the spot! leak locate Step two: Expose the leak! Now that the leak has been located, in the middle of a cul-de-sac, its time to start digging. repair in process water line located Step three: Evaluate the leak and existing material. Once the water line has been located we determine what material the line is constructed with and what material/fittings are in your best interest to replace it with. Once we have a clear path to follow, we cut out the failed section of the pipe and replace it with the new material. pipe repaired extent of digging for repair Step four: Test and back fill Now that the pipe is fixed we pressurize the water line to ensure there are no additional leaks as well as double check our own work and then back fill the hole. clean up Step five: Asphalt installation When we cut up any part of a road or driveway we will dispose of the old concrete and provide a new asphalt patch, which completes the water line repair! new asphalt
