Please stay far far away. It pains me to leave a negative review but I feel like I absolutely have to after this experience. We hired Chris to do some work to finish up our renovation on our rental house that I have been working on for the past 2 years. We were just trying to go ahead and get the project done. We had asked Chris do the following: • Strip and paint the eaves around the roof • Install new shower surrounds in the two showers • Paint and prime a bedroom, a bathroom, and the kitchen • Paint the kitchen cabinets and install new handles and hinges • Install trim around the front door and paint it • Fix a few rotten spots in the eaves and replace the mesh in those areas • Hang some interior doors, paint a few, and install new knobs and hinges What we ended up with is some of the worst work I have ever seen. What we ended up with: • The peeling paint on the eaves? Never stripped, simply painted over. Now peeling again just with fresh paint. • Shower surrounds? COVERED in caulking, there is caulking on the caulking, he did not remove any of the knobs or tub spouts, he simply cut massive, jagged holes to fit over them, then caulking to fill the massive gaps. Then slapped some wood baseboard trim over top to trim it out. See the pictures. I have since ripped them out and in the process of replacing them. Had to buy new ones. • Painter’s tarp and tape? Never heard of her. There is paint and caulking on every brand new switch, every outlet, every sink, toilet, light fixtures, sink faucets. All of the kitchen tiling and grout has paint overspray (it won’t come out of the grout) every new door knob and hinge, most of the new cabinet knobs, our dishwasher has paint on it, the burners on the stove are covered in paint spray. You would think that you would paint before installing new knobs, hinges, and handles. NOTHING was ever masked or taped or covered. His spray gun and roller just rolled right over every surface. Every switch/outlet cover, every doorknob and hinge has had to been either hand scrapped, cleaned or replaced. Plus one of our interior wall lights by the kitchen is covered in overspray and cant be cleaned. Yet another thing to be replaced. • The rotten sections of the eaves are held in place by caulking that looks like a 5 year old finger painted it in place and the white caulking was left unpainted. • Torn mesh in the eaves? Deck screws to the rescue! Mesh is screwed to the outside (not inside) of the eaves with enough screws (not even color matched) to build a deck. • Front entry way? There is now a large piece of unpainted plywood CAULKED in place in the ceiling to “fix” a rotten section. • At the front door, there is now black paint on the white ceiling from the front door trim. Now that whole ceiling has to be repainted in a new paint color since we cant match the old. • One of the bathroom vanity countertops has gouging and scraping on it that we now have to replace. • The front door trim, inside and outside, are cut to different lengths, uneven, the corners don’t match up at all nor do they even go all the way to the floor. • The front door was brand new, now the paint has chunks in it where dirt or something got in the paint. The black door seal/gasket around the door? Painted. The knobs? Got paint on them. The door threshold on the floor? Splattered with paint. • I can’t say it enough. There is paint and caulking everywhere in the house. • Timeline? He took on 2 or 3 deck projects while working on ours so it took over 2 months for him to finish our job. I have now spent weeks undoing and repairing and replacing nearly all of the work that he had done. We told him that we would not be paying him for the shower surround work and that we would be deducting the cost of new surrounds, and the cost of all of the caulking and adhesives needed to redo them. He agreed to that, but I regret paying him anything at all. Every single day I find more paint, caulking, scratches on all of the brand new outlets, switches, handles, hinges and fixtures that I had spent so much time replacing over the past 2 years. Everyday I find more jacked up work. Everyday I find more. He has cost us so much time and so much money. We only hired him to help us finish this work faster. Now we have been set back months at this rate. It was my mistake for not checking in and stopping him from working before he finished.
