Louis is very professional. He communicates very well, delivers the projects on time. He is one of the very few Handyman i have come across who is very professional and trustworthy. I highly recommend Louis.

I've used Luis for several of my home repair work. I liked very much the work he did, quality work. And, importantly, he started and accomplished the work within a reasonable time frame that he committed to.

Luis did the walk-through and after some negotiation we agreed on a price and scope of work. Early morning, the day work was to be performed, Luis notified me that he was unavailable and someone else would be performing the work (Victor). But that he would stop by after a few hours to check on the project (spoiler, we never saw him while the job was being performed). ADVICE: do not let a contractor replace themselves with someone you haven't met with and vetted for yourself. In my experience, nine times out of ten, this is a RED FLAG. Victor did not know what he was doing and turned what should have been a 2 or maybe 3 hour job (install dishwasher, sink, and garbage disposal) into a 9-hour ordeal. Spending that much time on a relatively simple project you would think the results would be amazing. Definitely not. Problem 1: cracked sink. Victor took our $300+ granite composite sink, and without checking the template that comes with the sink proceeded to try to wedge it into place. Not realizing the obvious problem that he needed to cut a slightly bigger opening. The result was that the front corner of the sink was broken completely off. He offered no suggestions or really an apology. And it wasn't until I pointed out the sink opening is too small and to use the template that was right in front of him that he realized it wasn't the sink or that our counter-top was uneven (both excuses he tried). He just wasn't trying very hard to do good work, or, he doesn't know how to. Needless to say, Luis never showed up to check on the project and of course Victor's communication with him about the issue as it was happening was less than truthful. With no good options provided and no real initiative from Victor or Luis to solve the problem (and due to time constraints of getting a new sink delivered and Luis' commitment to cover only half the cost to replace the sink they broke) we moved forward with completing the install of the damaged sink. With the agreement that there wouldn't be a charge for the incomplete job (more on this) but that, at our expense, Luis would send someone over to do extensive repair on the crack and it would be 80-90% invisible after that. Side Note: Victor didn't even scrape the residue from the previous sink off the counter, he epoxied over it. One of several things we've had to do ourselves to complete the job to professional standards. Problem #2 - dishwasher install. After 9 hours of Victor doing his best at subpar workmanship the job was "complete". He was on point when it came to asking for compensation for the necessary parts he purchased (and was reimbursed) but dropped the ball in taking away our old dishwasher (2 times), which is still sitting in our driveway several days later, and of course on the overall workmanship. But I digress, the real problem here is that the new dishwasher wasn't even set properly. When Luis came over (at our request) to review the work and discuss remedies he took all of about 20 minutes to make it right. DON'T LET YOUR CONTRACTORS HIRE SOMEONE YOU HAVEN'T ALSO HAD A CHANCE TO VET. Problem #3 - damaged sink repair. Although the crack in our sink is no longer so painfully obvious, the methods they used were surprisingly not anything special. They just covered with white epoxy and sanded it down. We were told they would take all these steps to repair, and we even provided them with the knockout from the air gap install to grind and use, but they took very few steps and were done in a short time. And we had to prod them to do the sink edges (aka the entire scope of what they were asked to do) and just to do better work. They didn't use sand or filler or anything else to try to blend it away. *I want to emphasize again the consistent theme of a complete lack of effort to do the best work they can. Or maybe this is the best they can do. I don't know. And maybe Luis does amazing work when he takes the time to perform the work but we didn't get the pleasure of that experience. Problem #4 (last straw) - old dishwasher removal. After forgetting to take it the first time and ignoring an agreed pick up date/time the second time. I tried to confirm when the dishwasher will be taken away. Considering what they had put us through so far you would think they'd want to wrap it up on a high note. Wrong again! Luis' response in our conversation was basically, "I'll get to it, I don't know when". So after everything we're now expected (not asked) to leave the old dishwasher in our driveway until he gets around to it. With the understandable expectation that it should have been done already but being incredibly reasonable in accepting that it may be done some time within a week of the dishwasher being removed. What I wanted was an eta. He couldn't provide one until I mentioned this review, at which point he could definitely say for sure that he would be out "next week". But by that point I was over it. Another thing we will take care of ourselves because I'm tired of having expectations not met on this project. I hope my thorough review of this particular job by JB Handyman is helpful to all. I will conceded it's possible this is a rare experience for JB Handyman customers but these are the facts of our experience. And even if you take everything else off the table, the fact it took so incredibly long for a basic job to be completed (still not complete) and with such low quality should at least be pause for concern if you are considering hiring Luis. For small projects like this there are many options out there and I would recommend passing if they respond to your project postings. Good luck out there!
