Yard Hydrant Leak Repair

Jul 2014

Slow leak underground from yard hydrant next to house. Dug up sprinkler line on PVB exit line. Followed line back until leak was found on PVC male adapter. Glue joint was not glued properly, had pulled out and was leaking. Cut out small section of 1" PVC, replaced 1" male adapter and plumbed water line back in with four 90's.

Low Water Pressure

Customer complained of low water pressure and a drip at the PRV. Observed the leak and took a pressure reading. House pressure was over 125 PSI outside. Replaced the bad PRV and set pressure at 75 PSI. Also informed customer of bad expansion tank and possible water damage to water heater. Water heater was original to house, over 13 years old. Anti-siphon on the east hose bibb was worn out. Replaced the anti-siphon for no charge.

Disposal Disfunction

Kitchen disposal was not draining. Customer used Draino to no effect. Emptied all of the water from the sink and disposal and removed the disposal drain to find the drain was clogged with chicken. Removed trap and cleaned all debris from the drain. Reinstalled the drain and checked for proper disposal operation.

Sprinkler Line Leak

Customer noticed leak on his sprinkler line off the rear of the house. 1" black poly had a freeze break, which had been leaking for some time. Verified leak, replaced 14" of the 1" black poly, reapplied the water and noticed a small drip at the PVC union. The union was loose. Refastened union and tested.

Leaking Ice Maker Line

Customer was concerned that a toilet might be continuously running due to high water bill. Checked all toilets in home and they tested fine. However, found leak in the ice maker line in the kitchen. Removed line at customer request. Kitchen floor and basement ceiling have heavy water damage. Restoration company had already been contacted. Also removed and capped off soap dispenser line in kitchen at customer request.

Pressure Problems

Customer had complaint of low water pressure. Took a 105 PSI pressure reading. Adjusted PRV and pressure continued to jump from 30 to 105 PSI. Removed old PRV, cut out old adapter and installed a new Watts PRV. Pressure set to 75 PSI and tested fine.

Kitchen Drain Blockage

Kitchen sink drain was clogged and backing up. Removed the traps and ran the snake down approximately 60'-70'. The snake did not clear the blockage. Used hose bladder to finally dislodge and clear blockage. Reattached drains and tested for proper operation.

Kinked Water Line

1/4" Copper line behind refrigerator had kinked and was leaking. Cut it next to the floor, installed a needle valve and coil of copper. Also water pipes were hammering when toilet was flushed. Installed an air hammer under the master toilet.
