This new modern single-family house is located in Cleveland Heights. The exterior was designed for low upkeep and longevity. Most exterior walls are clad in charcoal grey vertical siding. The main entrance is on the side of the house and highlighted in cedar colored siding. Once inside the foyer, an open staircase functions as the central access point to the main living area, the home office/ guest suite above the attached garage, the lower level and the garage. The rear of the house has expansive views of and opens onto the beautiful deep backyard through large folding doors and modern clerestory windows that help bring the outdoors in. The house features floating overhangs in key locations that were designed to provide shade and cover where needed. A green vegetated screen wall with an open overhead trellis was designed to give the homeowners privacy while sitting on the deck and to give convenient access to fruits and vegetables from the adjacent kitchen.

Here's an example of a large Cleveland Heights, OH, home that needed a total refresh to make it welcoming for the homeowners, two physicians with extremely busy schedules. The clients purchased the house with an existing master suite complete with large walk-in closet, master bedroom and master bathroom. But, these spaces were all clad in a very depressing light gray color, as is evidenced in the BEFORE photos. All the cabinetry was clad in light gray plastic laminate and the tile in the bathroom was all light gray as well. This did not make for a welcome respite at home after a full shift working at the hospital. Thus, the owners were looking for a new master suite that would be warm and inviting to spend time and relax in, yet contemporary in design with clean-lined detailing. The creative design came to life through a collaborative working relationship with the client. Harmoni Designs managed every step of the design and construction process including design, interior material selections, contractor bidding and construction management (functioning like a general contractor). The natural woodwork was designed to be the main focal point of each room while adding warmth, rich texture and quality workmanship. The interior materials and finishes were selected to complement the beautiful woodwork that was custom-made for the project. The natural woodwork in the master bedroom and walk-in closet brings light and color resulting in a comfortable and interesting space accented by the owners artwork. The master bathroom was designed to provide the homeowners with a peaceful space to relax and unwind after a busy day. The plumbing fixtures throughout the entire master bathroom are all high-end Kohler fixtures -- carefully selected to provide the clients with a spa-like bathing experience. This was accomplished by installing an infinity edge soaking tub and a multi-functional shower area. The end result is an original, stunning master suite that reflects the clients' personality and provides a harmonious living space to balance their otherwise hectic careers.

This Shaker Heights master bathroom was designed by Harmoni Designs, LLC to provide the homeowners with all the amenities of a nice spa. The bathroom has an unobstructed view of the beautiful neighboring golf course. The bathroom features a stream shower, freestanding tub, separate toilet room, floor heating throughout and even in the shower bench. All cabinetry and built-ins were designed and detailed by Martin Johannessen and Harmoni Designs, and crafted by a local Amish cabinet maker.

Quality is in the details! Every little corner of this kitchen was carefully thought out during the design process by Harmoni Designs and overseen during fabrication and all the way through construction to give the clients a truly high-end kitchen. The end and back panels on all the cabinets match the cabinet fronts all the way down to the embossed trim. Everything from the hood enclosure to the cabinetry to the beautiful coffered ceiling was custom designed by Harmoni Designs for the clients as well. When working in the kitchen, the chefs have a nice view of the back yard and the golf course through the adjacent breakfast nook windows. A new dining balcony with access to the back yard was created as well for a complete entertainment experience. Load-bearing structure was removed to greatly enhance the flow of the spaces, giving the client a seamless connection between the kitchen and the outdoors dining area overlooking the golf course. The solid walnut island countertop adds warmth and beauty to the kitchen.

Vacant for more than forty years, this 1929 English Tudor-style Cleveland Heights, OH, residence has been revived to its original glory. The ambitious project scope, a full exterior restoration and interior rehabilitation, didn't deter Harmoni Designs and its partners from working with the dedicated homeowners. The Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland bestowed the 2014 Heritage Home Award for this project: to preserve the home and its classic features while making a warm environment that meets the needs of family in the 21st century. From the award-ceremony program: "From simple bathroom updates to transformed living spaces, the renovations were well done and sympathetic to the home's architecture."

The homeowners goal for the project was to design a family friendly kitchen functioning as the control center for the home. The home was purchase with the intent to renovate and create their family home. The original kitchen was very small and crammed. The kitchen was enlarged by incorporating adjacent spaces and completely opening load-bearing walls. The kitchen was designed for optimal flow between it and the adjacent formal dining room and the main circulation area of the house, and to provide convenient access for bringing groceries into the kitchen. The workflow inside the kitchen was highly customized to work with the homeowners cooking style while allowing for comfortable entertaining inside the kitchen. All the cabinetry was custom designed for the homeowners by Harmoni Designs, eliminating the need for a third party kitchen designer and thereby increasing the design continuity for the client, resulting in a better controlled end product and overall process. The design brought more natural light into the kitchen and increased the connection to the exterior. The kitchen was carefully designed to work with the existing elements of the house.

The homeowners wanted to update the second floor master bathroom of their 1920's Cleveland Heights, OH, home from its original state. Harmoni Designs served as the architectural design pro to act as project manager to handle all aspects of the re-design. From architecture, interior design to construction management, Harmoni Designs put the clients' fears to rest by serving as a single point of contact, taking them through the entire process from beginning to end. Harmoni Designs presented several materials options including tile, fixtures, paint, and cabinetry and provided guidance on interior design choices. Once the major decisions were made about design, Martin turned the schematic design options into construction drawings. These drawings were given to several contractors to provide accurate bids for construction. Once the bids were in, Martin produced a very detailed schedule that was used to communicate and coordinate the project schedule with various contractors including the tile installer, plumber, electrician, painter, asbestos removal technician and carpenter. The client summarizes succinctly in a trifecta of words: "We love it!"
