We hired Johnny Warnke of Mighty Tighty Helpers to undertake renovation work at our newly purchased home in March 17th 2023. We hired Johnny, upon the recommendation of our realtor, to undertake a number of home renovation tasks, the largest of which was remodeling of the master ensuite and closet, and replacement of the flooring in the hallway and entrance way. We agreed that this work should ideally be done before we moved into the property in the last week of April. Johnny and his team replaced flooring in the hallway and front entrance shortly after we moved into the property. Stainmaster Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring was chosen by Johnny based on our specifications. The flooring was installed incorrectly with poor workmanship and using improper installation materials. The flooring is stained and cracked in several places where the vinyl tiles have been broken and then glued together. This type of flooring should not be installed with glue (manual attached). The vinyl tiles should be installed via "slide and click" method and in at least 4 areas the tiles have not been properly "clicked" into place and there are gaps between the tiles opening up causing an uneven and non-watertight flooring surface. The flooring does not join up and meet with existing flooring materials and does not extend under the washer in the hallway closet. The gaping problems continue to worsen with use in the high-traffic area of the entranceway and main corridor to the bedrooms in our home. So many of the tiles were damaged during installation it is not possible to only repair poorly constructed areas and a contractor we are now working with advised us that we need to completely replace the flooring. Johnny and his team partially completed demolition of the master bathroom and closet prior to our move in date, and between this time and July, the only progress that was made was cutting new drywall tiles to shape and placing a new bathtub. Our new contractors needed to do 1 further days labor to complete the demolition to get the area prepared for the remodel. Johnny spent April through July excusing the lack of any progress on materials that he was waiting on. After several weeks of negotiations and requests for the project to be finished, we finally fired Johnny from the project in July and asked him to deposit any materials that he had in his possession for the project in our garage. Johnny refused to address the question of whether he had any materials and it seems that many materials were not purchased. We are claiming a further compensation for incomplete demo and materials for the ensuite/closet remodel that we paid for but were not delivered. We paid Johnny $29,552.83 in 2 up-front payments and Johnny had asked for more money up-front shortly before we ultimately fired him despite no progress being made for several weeks. Some jobs were completed to our satisfaction (largely by sub-contractors that Johnny hired for specialty jobs such as fireplace installation) that covers some of this cost, and several jobs were partially completed or completed to a low standard, including the installation of backyard drainage pipes (channels dug are extremely shallow and inhibit top soil grass growth), removal of an intercom system and subsequent patchwork drywall repair that is laughably ba and rebuilding of brick steps (Johnny admitted to us that this work was unacceptably bad). Johnny and his team were routinely disrespectful, leaving garbage and a hazardous environment in our home that they knew was inhabited by young children under 5, and would only work for 2-3 hrs per day in the middle of the day, causing unacceptable delays to the progress of the project. Ultimately, Johnny was unable to take responsibility for his lack of progress and poor workmanship and ultimately turned hostile. He left us living in a building site for more than 3 months, constantly excusing lack of materials for the failure for jobs to be completed. We hired a new contractor to complete the work a few weeks after firing Johnny, and they managed to complete the project to the same specifications in less than 6 weeks to an excellent standard and no problems. We are taking legal action against Mighty Tighty Helpers to claim money that we paid up front for the work and materials.

Johnny was prompt in his communication and scheduling the work which was completed as discussed. He did a great job and we’ll definitely be working with him again!
