I contracted Mr. Adam Crum to work on my roof (a 16” X 80' mobile home), which sustained some damage in Hurricane Harvey. There was quite a bit of shingle damage on the West end of the mobile home on both the North and South side. Also, a good bit of the flashing appeared to have damage. Since the home is 30 years old, I knew he could run into more damage. I specifically told him that I wanted “whatever it takes to make it right” is what I wanted. Most of the time he and a helper named Jeff were at work I was gone as I had a number of medical test appointments which coincided with his work time. However, after he was “finished” in two days, I later noticed some flashing actually hanging off. When I asked him about it he said, “The wood underneath was too rotten to nail into.” I asked him when he was going to tell me about this and he basically looked down and didn't answer. The job was bad enough that the neighbors on that side asked when the roofers were coming. The shingles, which had no edge put down or adhesive and overlapped by at least 3 inches were starting to blow and looked messed up. Later, he said he would just buy some 1”X 6” facia boards, to again cover up the problems, not solve them. The actual facia was “2” x “6,” and some was rotten. I got another crew to come back and this time absolutely get it right at any cost. Besides some rotten edge wood and decking, which should have been replaced before beginning on anything else, they also discovered that Mr. Crum had just shingled over 2 layers of shingles (photo clearly shows this). So it has 3 layers of shingles thanks to him Even I know this is totally unacceptable. This is either incompetence or negligence. Now they have had to replace a lot of wood, all the roof vents, the flashing, facia, some of the rafters....the roof! And while they were working, a weak spot in the ceiling caved in on my bed. (photo) There had been a small drip leak that weakened the wall board in the ceiling. Of course, Mr. Crum would not know any of this because he didn't remove the previous shingles to see. And since he didn't even tell me about the wood rot he found, I wouldn't expect he would try. Even if Mr. Crum did not want to do the job, taking money for a totally waste of a job (all his materials had to be torn off to do it right) and running is shameful. I don't think he cares about quality at all. I will not let him touch my property and I am writing this to try to save someone else from spending hard-earned money on work that will have to be torn back off and trashed. For nothing.
