As you view the pictures look at the top plate. What happened was the chimney was covered from the out side incorrectly. flashing was diverting the water to the inside, trapping it in between the application and framing. The took the removal of the front brick mantel and stoop. Remove and replace all rotten wood. install new drywall and finish with a touch a paint.
