Better Then the Rest Painting - or did they mean Better THAN the Rest Painting?? The owner Willie Latimore also uses the name Top Notch Painting-Pressure. I hired him on July 17, 2016 to paint my upper and lower kitchen cabinets. He started on Saturday July 23, 2016 and never finished. He never properly cleaned nor primed the cabinets before applying the first coat of paint. After 4 1/2 hours of "work" he still didn't finish the first coat on all the cabinet surfaces. Some of the surfaces that did receive a coat of paint dried cracked. This is likely due to poor cleaning and no priming prior to paint application. He tried to get away with painting my cabinet doors while they were still hung until I stopped him - who does that? After I removed all the doors myself, he stated he would take all 20 doors to his "shop" where he would clean, prep and spray them instead of using a roller. He was scheduled to return the next day, Sunday July 24 to finish all the cabinets, but he didn't show up. When he left with my doors that first day I didn't hear from him for two weeks. After the first week of no communication, I contacted him to ask when he will return to my house to finish his work. He stated he would return on Sunday July 31 in the afternoon. He never showed up, and he texted that he couldn't make it because, "the rain caused the cabinets to dry slow because of the moisture in the air." So he stated he would come the next day. He never showed up, never called. Another week went by where he never called to update me on his return to finish the work, or to give me an update on the status of my cabinet doors. Finally the following weekend I got in touch with him to arrange to get my cabinet doors back from him. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with his service and his lack of communication, he made it seem as if I were causing trouble for him and made excuses for why he wouldn't come finish his work. He stated that he was, "starting a new full time job on Tuesday August 9 from 4am-1pm, 7 days a week." Because of this he was, "closing out all paint jobs this week." The only day he claimed he was able to come finish the work is Monday August 8. That day didn't work for me because I had to work. When I met him on Sunday August 7 to retrieve my cabinet doors, they were not in the condition he stated they would be in when we last spoke. He stated that, "when you told me to stop where I was at, all the doors except two were completely finished with two coats. One needs one more coat and one still needs to be done." When he first took the doors he also stated that he would keep each door "sandwiched" by drop cloths and neatly stacked during transport to prevent damage to the paint and wood. He had all 20 of my doors in the back of his SUV, stacked on top of each other, not "sandwiched" between drop cloths as he stated they would be. The doors were obviously brushed, not sprayed. None of the doors were completely nor evenly painted. There were so many nicks and chipped paint flaws on every door that they were just too numerous to count. I could write a novel on all the lies he told and excuses he made throughout this dreadful process. Lessons learned: 1) Never go for the lowest bid - you get what you pay for. 2)Always follow your gut - your instincts about people and situations will never fail you 2) Haste makes waste - never rush into a project without taking the time to assess every single aspect of it because it could turn out to be a great DIY project.
