Founded in 1951, Cortese Brothers Construction has traveled a long road to get where they are today. Two brothers by the name of Frank and Nick Cortese came to the U.S.A with nothing at all but an aspiration of living the American Dream. Without any knowledge of how the Western World operated, and a serious language barrier, Frank and Nick founded what is today one of the largest home remodeling companies in Buffalo and the surrounding WNY area. Cortese Bros., as it was called on their DBA, because neither Frank nor Nick could spell Brothers, was born in 1951 as a concrete company in the basement of Frank's house. Specializing in driveways, foundations, garage floors and all flatwork Cortese Brothers Construction thrived as a leader in the concrete industry. In addition to the concrete company, the brothers bought and built over 65 units of apartments all over WNY, all of which are still owned and operated by Cortese Brothers. With an eye for detail and a quality reputation that was unmatched in the industry Cortese Brothers soared into its next generation on top of its industry. Domenic Cortese, son of Frank Cortese, made the company what it is today. Starting as a laborer on the concrete crew, Domenic learned the business the hard way. After years of being the laborer, the go-fer, the salesman, and the production manager, Frank retired leaving the legacy to Domenic. It was then that Cortese Brothers Construction shifted gears and became the leader of the Home Remodeling industry. While replacing concrete garage floors Cortese Brothers was approached to build a new garage. It was not in their scope of work but they gave it a shot and propelled themselves into the building industry. Cortese Brothers then excelled into kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and any other major renovations. Again, a quality reputation, attention to detail and employing the best carpenters in the WNY market, Cortese Brothers was able to brand themselves as the premier contractor for all facets of home remodeling. In 1997 Cortese Brothers Construction won The Better Homes and Gardens Magazine award for best Kitchen and best Bath in the United States. It was the first time in the magazines history that a kitchen and bath in the same house both won first place. Cortese Brothers Construction is probably most widely known for Domenic's radio show on WBEN News Talk 930am. Since April of 1989 Domenic has had his call-in Home Improvement Hour on Saturdays at 10 am. As Cortese Brothers grew at a rate unparalleled in the contracting industry more and more services were offered. In the late 90's Cortese Brothers started a Handyman Division that was created for the small jobs that most contractors would turn away. Seeing a niche that needed to be filled Cortese Brothers filled it and continued their success well into the 21st century where the next generation of Cortese's were welcomed into the company. Starting the same way their father did, the new generation of "Cortese Brothers" started with the company. Working their way up from laborers on the framing crews, to carpenters, and now into operations, Phil, Nick and sister Michelle Cortese have brought Cortese Brothers Construction into its third generation of quality contracting. In May of 2012- Cortese was honored as Buffalo Niagara's Business Ethic award recipient for their outstanding operation in day to day business and treatment of customers, later they also were recognized in local publication for this honorable ethical achievement. At present day, Cortese Brothers Construction remains the elite contractor for any home remodeling needs.
