Aisan inspired bathroom remodel

Feb 2014

IN AN EFFORT TO CONVERT THEIR AMERICAN FARMHOUSE to a home with a feeling of the far east, this Pennsylvania couple decided to convert their boxy bedroom and bathroom into a light and open master suite. They retained the services of Salvatore Manzo from Renaissance to create an area where they could retreat after a long day. The first thing Manzo suggested was to plan their rooms with a common theme. They chose a mixture of British Colonial furnishings and Asian accents. The bath area was outfitted with hi-tech plumbing fixtures, as well as a combination of Wenge cabinetry and limestone counter surfaces. A large soaking tub surrounded by a Wenge trimmed porcelain tile platform gives the homeowners a place to drift away after a tiring day. The large shower is equipped with a ceiling-mounted sunflower head, as well as a separately controlled hand shower which makes taking a shower a relaxing experience. A custom designed vanity was created to house his and her sinks, as well as a make-up area. The vanity was equipped with rollout drawers for easy access to toiletries and a custom mirror to house the wall mounted stainless faucets. A separate wall unit was added to hold towels, display treasures and provide a space for a television. A hidden outcove was created for the toilet and bidet, by adding a 6’ knee wall behind the tub platform. With the combinations of natural materials, rustic Artifacts and hi-performance products, Renaissance was able to give this couple a place they could vacation everyday.

Urban Country Kitchen

Aug 2011

THIS ACTIVE SUBURBAN PHILADELPHIA FAMILY longed for more space and an updated design for their 970’s-era kitchen. Desiring such, they contacted Salvatore Manzo of Renaissance to help them plan a space large enough for entertaining, but intimate enough for family meals. The renovation began by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. A large window was installed above the sink, and the eating area was enlarged with the addition of French doors to increase the space and capture the breathtaking view of the adjacent pond. Warm maple beaded inset cabinets finished with an olive glaze were chosen for the cabinetry. Custom wall cabinets with olive paint and hand-distressed glass doors were also added. To accommodate the needs of the family cook, Manzo designed space for a commercial stove, custom hood, warming drawer and fully integrated dishwasher. A second sink was added to the island for food prep and quick drinks for the children. For easy maintenance, honed quartz counter surfacing was installed throughout the kitchen. Recessed lighting was used around the cabinet perimeter, stainless steel under-cabinet lighting for the cooking area, and two pendants with decorative lampshades were added to the island. Crackled hand-cast brick shaped tiles completed the cooking area. An oak floor with a rich mocha stain served as the finishing touch. The result is a spacious kitchen with a trendy design. ◆
