A passion for design and old-world charm, coupled with the finest craftsmen in Fairfield County, breathed new life into the home, transforming it with a modern approach. Nestled inside a Connecticut nature preserve this traditional farmhouse features some of the charm, re-claimed flooring and doors from the iconic original farmhouse that stood on the property since the early 1800’s. Architect Michael Cusato blended traditional old world farmhouse architecture, incorporating antique beams and period hardware, with modern amenities and features, ala large scale windows and metal standing seam roof, to create a new, beautiful and functional one of a kind family homestead.

This custom contemporary in the Compo Beach area of Westport is home to a visual artist who had great input – her signature red pops up everywhere! – in the unique designs of Vita Design Group and Kathy Davis Groener Interiors. Oversize windows, balconies and a wraparound deck invite the outside in, and extend the interior living space into the outdoor setting. Highlights include a modernistic glass elevator, reminiscent of a bank pneumatic tube, and a zen-inducing central courtyard.

The project highlights how excellent team collaboration can substantially improve the end result. Working closely with the architecture team at J.P. Franzen Associates and the homeowners (often remotely half way across the world) every detail of this transitional new construction was carefully designed, planned, crafted and integrated with state-of-the-art smart home functionality to achieve the look and functionality our clients wanted. The project was the featured article of athome magazine’s January/February 2019 annual builder issue.

This top-to-bottom renovation in Wilton, Connecticut, blended an innovative mix of classic and contemporary to create a high-end transitional home. Architect Richard Swann’s design, along with Amy Coe’s interiors, seamlessly fused modern and traditional, with such highpoints as a reconfigured airy entry foyer, classic state-of-the art kitchen, third floor industrial-inspired retreat for the man of the house, and multiple light living spaces.
