Architect - Fairport, NY
Design Works Architecture is a design and construction management firm. We thrive with residential projects of all sizes; both new and additions and/or renovations. With many of our residential clients being owners of businesses we are often asked to work on their commercial projects. With over 50 projects on the Finger Lakes, we have developed an expertise working on lake side properties. Chuck led the design department for New Energy Works Timber Framers for nine years and became an expert designer of timber frame structures. About 30 per cent of our projects feature timber and reclaimed wood details. We utilize 3d digital modeling in the design process. We always walk the site with our clients to help integrate the proposed structure into the land. We understand and recommend the latest sustainable design opportunities to help reduce the impact of your project on the environment. We are able and willing to help with the many interior detailing decisions including coordinating color stories. We willingly offer construction observation or construction management services to remain active in the build process. We endeavor to make the journey of design and building fun and gratifying.

Rochester Office Addition | Sep 2011 | Added corporate offices for my client's company to a warehouse building. The color of the building is found in the corporate logo - red. The two story addition is completely accessible. The south facing windows of the reception area face a green space. | $500k | Rochester, NY
Shingle House on Canandaigua Lake | Sep 2013 | New house on south facing lake side property. Challenges of Town height restriction of 25 feet and 100 year flood plain required second floor to be tucked into dormers. | Canandaigua, NY
Blue windows on Keuka Lake | Dec 2012 | The new house plan pays homage to the former cottage on the site. The house is rotated slightly to the southwest to enhance the view down the lake. The first floor was raised to allow a walk-out level that contains guest bedrooms, a family room and a cabana bath. A bridge allows access across a stream to a neighboring cottage belonging to a relative. | Penn Yan, NY
First floor bedroom addition | May 2007 | Adding a room on the back of a 1928 house in Fairport, NY. The room is to function as an office and later as a first floor bedroom. The addition also added a new covered entry, a full bathroom and some space in the renovated kitchen. The exterior is western red cedar to match the existing siding. | Fairport, NY
Mill Creek golf course clubhouse | May 2007 | Clubhouse is located on the top of a drumlin in the southwest corner of Monroe County with views to the north of the Rochester skyline and to the south of the hills of Naples, NY. The clubhouse is on the ground floor with the cart storage tucked into a hillside. The kitchen, timber framed bar and restaurant are on the upper floor accessed off grade at the north side. A wrap around timber framed porch offers views of the ninth and eighteenth greens. | Churchville, NY
Holimont ski chalet | Aug 2006 | The house is built in a ski community in southwestern New York. The great room is framed with reclaimed timbers. It features a ski storage and work room on the ground floor. The front facade is inspired by a chalet located on Cascadilla Gorge in Ithaca, NY near Cornell University where I went to architecture school. | Ellicottville, NY
Canandaigua Lake boat house | Jul 2006 | We were asked to design a traditional lake front structure to store boats and serve as a guest house. Design inspiration was found in the details of Hacker Craft mahogany boats and boat houses found on Lake George and other upstate New York lakes, The structure is built into a hillside to allow at grade entry for each level. A raised side entry allows a top view of the boat similar to the view one would have from a dock. The one bedroom residence on the upper level is 883 net square feet. | Naples, NY |
