Hilliker Building Group

Hired Jim Hilliker / Hilliker Building Group in October 2018 to finish a basement. He led us to believe he was licensed, but the work permit had to be in someone else's name because he is not. Hindsight being 20/20, we should have cancelled our contract then. In April of 2019, I have filed a small claims lawsuit against him. He asked for advance on draws often. They seemed like legitimate requests, so we gave him money (stocking up on drywall, paying laborers before Christmas, etc...). The first month was great. He communicated and work was done regularly. Then, it became increasingly difficult communicating with him. Had to reach out to him often, Many times the timelines he gave us were never met. There were times no one showed up at all (we had left basement unlocked), and even he didn't know where his workers were. The workers that came out did not do the job properly. We had parts that we purchased on our own go missing. We had a ladder go missing, but that was returned. He did not get the proper inspections done. Claimed to be sick often when we tried to meet with him for walkthroughs to discuss correction of bad work. He had even offered to give us a refund on some work that was never completed in the shower. (Refund did not happen). We asked him more than once to verify his books matched ours with regards to payments and work done. He would say that he would "get with his office assistant" and advise, but that never happened either. After 3 weeks, he did come out (March 17, 2019). He acknowledged the work was horrible, apologized profusely and promised to make our job a top priority. He came out one day after that. After a week had passed, we reached out to him to ask that he stick to the agreement that was made. He did not like the accountability, and told us he was no longer going to do our job. Because of this, we have asked for a refund of our money for the work that has not been done, and for some of the work that has had to be re-done. (Example - trim. It was terrible. He came and ripped it out and was going to put new down before he quit). This is just a brief synopsis of the experience. I have pictures, and printed copies of all text messages and emails to back this up.

My wife and I decided to redo the very dated kitchen and shower and knew we would be living a compromised life for about 10 weeks and we were ok with that. Now, 13 weeks later we are STILL living like that. Why? Because Hilliker Building Group left us! Yes , LEFT!!!! And left with our money! He hasn’t done any work on out house in MORE than 6 weeks. And the work,other than our tile, Which is phenomenal Interior Tile Solutions & More!!We haven’t heard from him in over a week, even after we sent a letter of demand. He promised and promised. These are just a few photos of his work. And sadly, we are just a handful of people he has wronged.

We hired Jim back in May to do a garage addition that was suppose to be done by the end of August. It is now the end of October and we only have half a garage done, and no end in sight. Save yourself a headache and hire someone else. Looks like we will have to take him to court.
