  | Maryland Green Designer Show Home | Oct 2012 | This award-winning house is one of many eco-friendly homes, built by Baldwin Homes, at the Preserve at Severn Run community in Gambrills, Md. The three R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle are at the very core of this house, which has been used for much of the past year as a Maryland Green Designer Show Home, raising money for Hospice of the Chesapeake and Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. Once the home is sold, all profits will be donated to the two charities. From the site to every element within, the home is environmentally-friendly through use of the latest in green building technology and reuse of materials, which would have been destined for landfills. The house has been certified the highest classification, Emerald, by the NAHB Green Building Standards and Gold by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Additionally, it’s Energy Star-certified, achieving approximately 56 percent better energy efficiency then a standard new home and 86 percent greater efficiency than a home built years ago. | Gambrills, MD |
