Nothin' But Decks

We had our deck installed in 2013, a composite deck with cedar railing. We love the deck and think they did a good job installing it but we're disappointed with the customer service after it was installed and paid for. I was told by Mike before they built it that they would replace any bad boards-no questions asked, but when I called or emailed with pictures I never got a response. I had to replace one board myself and there are still a few that look like crap but I gave up calling. If you're getting all composite I would recommend, but not for any install with wood. *Update* A year ago I found out that the correct way to have a deck installed is to remove the siding and install flashing which was never done on my deck. My brother-in-law had their deck installed in 2016 by Nothin’ but Decks, but last year they had water come through onto their first floor and this was do to not having a flashing put on. He now has to have this fixed which will cost him over $3k. (They have to disconnect the deck from the house and remove the ledger board, and then make the corrections. This doesn’t include having to replace all the laminate flooring on the first floor). I’ve been lucky so far and haven’t seen any water but who knows if the ledger board or rim joist is rotting. Only time will tell. I called Mike last year and talked to him about how they install decks and in his opinion they did nothing wrong. When we originally had it installed he said they would take care of things that were wrong down the road no matter how long, but when we talked he said nothing about making it right. They got paid so now it’s my problem. The problem is if I ever want to sell my house I’ll have to bring it up to code, which is exactly the situation my brother-in-law is in. I’ve called other contractors to see what they do when installing and they all say they add flashing. If I were to do it all over again I would definitely look elsewhere and make sure I researched how a deck should be properly installed to code. Hopefully this review will help others to see why it’s best to check out other contractors.
