Mr Cardwell was paid to install an awning. He blamed the awning company when it was obvious he didn’t install it properly according to instructions. He DEMANDED more payment up front before he would correct his mistake and suggested we hire someone else.

The project was to install an awning on deck. It was improperly installed. Mr Cardwell blamed Aleko, the company for the mistake. We paid him the remainder of our agreed upon price in good faith because he said he could and would fix the error. Now he is refusing to carry out his part of the contract unless we pay twice as much as our original agreement BEFOR he does the work. We are not about to be fooled twice.

Mr. Douglas seemed to have a general sense of construction knowledge and practice as he talked through how we would accomplish our projects during the estimate phase, but we the homeowners had a horrible experience with his work performance and business practices after signing contract with him. Mr. Douglas took our initial deposit of 50% and did not use it to fund necessary material and labor for our project. He tried to cover the reality of the situation by devoting minimal work time to the project (only 2 hours a day); reported jobs as completed when we found that they still required attention; and lied repeatedly about what day materials were being delivered. In the last week before project deadline, Mr. Douglas told us he spend our deposit on someone else's bill and did not have cash to provide us with working material. He wanted a cash advancement even though the project was nowhere near 50% of completion and his contract clearly stated final payment would be collected at the completion of project after the inspection and approval of the homeowner. Mr. Douglas pressed us to buy partial material ourselves and told us not funding an advancement for him would “just delay things more”. He told us he was committed to getting the project done with the advancement of material we provided, and would work complete days with a team to complete our project. This became just another one of Mr. Douglas’s lies as no team showed up, and he refused to work the day that partial material was present. As a result of his consistent failures his workmanship suffered as well. He tried to hang drywall solo, partially ruining the material we purchased; any initial directive we gave him at the beginning of the project were disregarded in the end...wiring was installed wrong, a return air duct was not cut out at the right height and damaged a hanging shelf on the other side of the wall. Mr. Douglas had no empathy for the situation he placed us in. He threatened to walk off the project (which he did a day later) after telling me very rudely that "this is not my problem...I'm the contractor; I get to call the shots".
