I hired Elmer to build an attached garage to my home. After paying him $26,300, I called the county building inspector when a different contractor pointed out major mistakes in Elmer's frame work. After receiving the county inspector's report, Elmer then refused to finish the job. Many mistakes were reported by the inspector. Another contractor gave me an $8,000 quote to fix Elmer's mistakes. I have hired an attorney. Elmer has not yet offered any sort of refund. I just received a letter from his attorney stating they only want to refund $2,000 to me out of the $20,000 I'm due.
