Green Rowhouse Renovation

Oct 2013

NARI Contractor of the Year award-winning project! This project is an extensive update of a 100 year old row home in historic West Chester. On the first floor, the front-to-back, 3-room layout - very typical of this type of home - was opened up to a more current living arrangement. The kitchen was remodeled with both sustainable building products and a tight budget in mind. Existing cabinets were painted and reused. New island features an Ikea cabinet base, with a quartz work surface and a bamboo bar top. Countertops are bamboo. The brick wall was exposed in the foyer, highlighted by vertical "widows" cut into the living room wall. Original wood floors were refinished. New, modern lighting was installed. On the second floor, the home's single bathroom was gutted and remodeled. Refinished wood floors, new lighting and fresh paint was applied throughout the bedrooms and hallway.

1930's Cottage Remix

Apr 2014

WINNER 2015 Regional Contractor of the Year NARI Regional CotY Award Residential Interior Over $150,000. WINNER 2015 Contractor of the Year DelChester NARI DelCY Award Residential Interior Over $150,000. After adopting a rescue dog who quickly became her best friend, this homeowner realized it was time to move out of the city. We were happy to step in and help her find a renovation-ready home in the country with plenty of green, outdoor space. Four months later, we found this 1930s cottage that would transform into the perfect home for her and her beloved pup. We went to work on opening up the first floor by removing two dividing walls between the main living spaces. A large kitchen with custom banquette eating area is a fantastic entertaining space. A previous breakfast area has become the mudroom with loads of storage for human and pet items! The small powder room was enlarged and gained a pocket door to become more user friendly and easier to access. Upstairs, subtle but tranformative changes were made to the hallway, entry door and closet layouts in each room, thus enlarging the existing closets and creating a new walk-in hallway closet. The master bedroom closet features a custom reclaimed barn wood sliding door. We carefully mixed reclaimed, primitive materials with simple, modern elements to achieve the modern barn aesthetic the homeowner wanted. The mix of old and new - city and country - extended to the craftmen we selected for the project. The reclaimed barn wood kitchen island and bathroom cabinets were made by an Amish carpenter with a specialty in primitive pieces. The modern euro cabinets and concrete countertops were made by a young hipster craftsman from a rough-and-tumble transitional neighborhood in the heart of the city.

Mediterranean Charm

Feb 2013

Bill & Michelle bought this home with an intent to extensively remodel. Originally custom-designed for a Spanish buyer, the home had lots of mediterranean charm like arched doorways, hand-painted tile, an iron-and-oak front door. Sadly, the most recent owner had covered much of this charm with a mis-matched American colonial motif. Spring Creek Design restored its Spanish charm in a fresh, updated way.

Mid Century Rancher

May 2012

Tim & Elissa have a beautiful home in the most desirable Wyomissing neighborhood. Broad sidewalks under stately oaks, with nearby parks makes it a perfect place to raise a growing family. But their 2-bedroom mid-century rancher was becoming a squeeze. They asked Spring Creek Design to come up with a cost-effective solution to their space problem, while also tackling some of the homes aged infrastructure.

Luxury Multi-Tiered Deck

Apr 2012

This beautiful home still had the original builder-supplied pressure-treated deck. The framing was in fine shape, but the hum-drum pressure-treated surface and railings had to go. The homes swimming pool is on the opposite side of the house, and sight lines and physical connection from the deck to the pool was lacking. Doug & Amber asked us to improve the connection between the deck and the pool without sacrificing the view from the house. Design Criteria: Update surface and railings to a luxury grade. Improve the connection between deck and pool. Preserve the view of the pool from inside the house. Special Features: New lower level with steel-framed cantilevered roof. Graceful walkway connects decks and pool area. Custom tempered-glass railing system preserves the view from inside the house. Brazilian Walnut (Ipe) surface and accents are the ultimate in luxury and durability.

Sports Themed Man Cave

Oct 2011

This multipurpose man cave has plenty of space to relax and entertain. A wrap around maple bar with concrete counter is a great place to enjoy a pint with friends. The pool table room features lighted display niches and unique twisted brick column. Sit and watch the game in the media room with a custom built TV stand. Open ceiling joists and mahogany trim throughout gives this space a masculine yet inviting feel.

Cheerful Mudroom

Sep 2011

Winner DelCY Award Delchester NARI 2011 Contractor of the Year Interior Under $100K. This West Chester rancher had a rather dilapidated back porch that served as the principal entrance to the house. Meanwhile, the stairway to the basement went through the kitchen, cutting 4 from the width of this room. When Derek and Abbey wanted to spruce up the porch, we saw an opportunity to move the basement stairway out of the kitchen.
