We hired Mr. Rigby in early March to paint our kitchen cabinets, add an additional bank of cabinets to the top and put glass in some of the doors, as well as build a wine rack. The project evolved, as projects do, when we were not happy with the painted finish on our oak cabinet doors and Ray recommended filling the grain to give it a smooth finish. The fill was not coated evenly on the sample door and did not look as nice as we hoped. We asked about having new doors built and Ray stated he had much cabinet building experience and could build us new doors, no problem, for a very nominal fee. The first set of doors were a disaster. None of the doors were the correct size, some taller than others, some wider than others, some not even square. Ray very humbly took the doors back and remade them. The second set looked much nicer, however when we tried to install them they were still not the correct sizes. As well, the color on the doors did not match the color or finish on the base cabinets that were painted weeks previously. Ray was to come back and see what else could be done, but after rescheduling the appointment three times over a two week period due to "personal problems", we decided to end the relationship. It was clear that cabinet building was just to far outside his expertise. We were approximately 8 weeks into the project and needed to move on. The additional cabinets that were built for the top also had to be built twice due to incorrect sizing issues, and even the second set does not fit exactly as it should. At Ray's request we paid him $3,500 about 6 weeks into the project. At this point we have not had cabinet doors on any of our cabinets for about 3 months, and Ray will not return any of our original cabinet doors that he removed, after requesting them on 3 separate occasions. He has also sought an attorney instead of refunding any of our money. Throughout the process Ray continually took responsibility for the problems we encountered, but for some reason draws the line at refunding our money for an project that was clearly outside his scope of expertise. We sincerely hope that this has a positive outcome and will update this review as it plays out.
