Remodeling Contractor - Inwood, NY
I was about 13 when i was summoned into my Grandfather's workshop. Thats where i met the love of my life. She was heavy, dirty, she smelled like hard work and rough hands. And I loved every bit of her. "Dad" told me I would learn something, what he didn't tell me was that what I learned, would change my ife forever. Never again would I see a piece of furniture, walk through a doorway, flip a lightswitch and not think of the work that went into that table, that threshhold or that ceiling fan. The importance of precision was lesson number one. Using a yard stick he measured and drew lines on a piece of plywood. She was flirting with me. Showing me things I wouldnt understand until years later. I watched Dad's hands and his eyes. He never took his eyes off the edge of the yardstick After the lines were drawn he showed me the outline of would en up being the top of the radiator covers that we were to build. He placed the plywood down and clapmed it to the workbench. I remember looking at his knuckles as he gripped and turn the handles on the clamps. he grabbed a handsaw off the wall and handed it to me. I was terrified. He told me not be scared of it. Told me that I was in control. As long as I used it properly, I wouldn't hurt myself. He guided me through my first cut. Teaching me with single word sentenced and grunts. to this day th esound of a hand saw cutting through wood invigorates me. That when I fell in love with her. She was terrifing and beautiful. Carpentry is my first love. I am a carpenter. It's not just what I do, its who I am.
