We had a horrible experience with OTB and it continues today. With more than 25 years in architecture, I have yet to meet such a chaotic construction company. Craig Dye does not understand estimating, budgeting, construction, management, nor contracts. The people he hires are great and the main reason why projects may work out for OTB. In our project, the guys doing the work tried to compensate for Craig’s management. This proved impossible. Here are the facts: Within the time of my project, 7 people left OTB and 4 of them warned me about the management. My project was contracted to be a 7 month build. It went over 16 months. OTB didn’t follow the engineering requirements during earthwork which led to severe delays and costs. I ended up doing almost all of the take-offs, material procurement, and administration of the project from beginning to the end. I made hundreds of trips to the store to get every kind of material. This was never compensated. I had to hire most of the subcontractors myself because so many subs will not work directly with OTB. The first red flag was at the signing of the contract when OTB asked if I knew any subcontractors they could use. A lien was put on OTB by BMC lumber because OTB did not pay them for over a year. I simplified the details of my project to help reduce the amount of time that it would take for OTB to build, yet never saw any cost reduction. I worked daily right alongside OTB staff, organizing the site, preparing material, cutting material, buying tools, installing, finishing, correcting mistakes. I did not receive any compensation for this. Under the recommendation of OTB’s project lead, I hired an outside carpenter to build the stairs because, after 2 attempts, no one on OTB’s staff could be trusted to do it correctly. Craig showed up on site once a month to collect a check. He would direct his staff remotely. He switched job leads which caused delay. He pulled staff off of our project which was already behind schedule. A guaranteed maximum price written in the contract was not honored by OTB. It went over by more than $50K. OTB is not honoring the warranty that they included in the contract. Craig actually said he would fix the mistakes (including spilled stain on a deck) only if he gets extra money! OTB was overpaid based on the contract. They will not return any of this overage. Not a single change order was written for my project yet OTB feels it deserves more money than what the contract stipulates. OTB didn’t complete my project despite getting full payment. The staff felt bad about what Craig was doing and offered to help after hours to get the project finished up. I ended up having to spend 4 months doing the finish work myself. After I notified OTB of their breach of contract, Craig put a frivolous lien on my home based on nothing more than the fact that the project took longer than they expected. Craig could not point to a single contractual sentence justifying a lien. The lien has now expired. This proves that it was done only with the intent to intimidate. When we finally got a lawyer, OTB had breached the contract on multiple counts. My lawyer and I are pursuing OTB for all of these damages. Craig may write something about how there are many sides to a story and they have many successful projects. Multiple legal actions, a bad reputation amongst subcontractors, high turn over, financial difficulties, and staff that won’t even recommend OTB speaks for itself.

Quick, professional service at reasonable pricing! Craig and Matt have been a pleasure to work with (I've used them for a few projects around my house), and am very pleased with the results! I will continue to use Old Town Builders for any future projects that I may have down the road.

Craig remodeled a couple of bathrooms for us and then also did some minor updates elsewhere. Craig's team was top notch in terms of both the quality of the work and the professionalism throughout. Craig kept me in loop along the way, so we were involved in all important decisions. Would definitely use Old Town again.

After finding Craig of Old Town Builders using Porch.com, he listened to our wants regarding our kitchen remodel. He then came back with drafts of extremely creative and practical visions which he later crafted to make our dream kitchen remodel become a reality. We could not be happier with the final results!
