Juno Beach House Remodel

Oct 2015

This project was a total remodel of a beach house in Juno Beach, FL. The original house was built in 1961, and a total of 2,629 SQ.FT. As typical of the old style homes in Florida the ceilings were low, most of the rooms were separated by walls, it was very dark, and the exterior of the house was not attractive. My design concept for this house was to turn it from an old florida ranch to a Mediterranean / Beach villa. My vision was to to create more of an open concept floor plan, raise the ceiling, add a master bath, a walk-in closet, a dinning room, and increase the outdoor patio space. I wanted to bring the outdoors in and show the beautiful view of the lake from every room. The design problem we ran into was how to incorporate the ceiling beams in the design, and make them functional in order to hold the weight of the tile roof we added as well as decorative and attractive. We decided to expose the once hidden beams in the attic and wrap the beams with picky cypress wood which made all the difference. The beams became the focal point of the design. The total remodel took 6 month to finish and became a total of 3,375 SQ.FT.
