Mr. Handyman of Kalamazoo-St. Joseph

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. I am sad that I am having to make this review. Several years ago Mr. Handyman was pretty decent and we used them for several jobs around our home. Lately however, their service has not just declined, it has fallen off a cliff into a deep crevasse with no hope of ever coming back. EASILY THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD WITH A HOME SERVICE TO DATE. In MAY, 2020, Mike agreed to do several jobs for us; cleaning and repairing our gutters, replacing some outdoor lights and a plumbing project. In June he finally sent 'Todd' who refused to do gutter work at that time, but did some simple plumbing work. Todd broke just about every blasted thing in our house with that little job. He broke our tile floor, our water main, a pipe in our basement and the valve to our water softener which he shouldn't have even touched. He charged us $500 bucks (including $100 for 'shopping' for a piece to fix a valve he shouldn't have touched in the first place). I protested the original charge of $550 with Mike since Todd shouldn't have touched the valve and he reduced it only by $50. Todd smelled of old cigarettes, BO and urine (I had to fumigate after he left) He swore like a sailor in front of our minor son (he used the C word SEVERAL times, quite loudly which my son later asked what it meant), interrupted my husband's work day multiple times even during meetings despite that I had taken the day off to accommodate the appointment (Todd had me running around doing other things for him....um, why did we hire someone to work for us?). Todd then demanded that my husband help him carry out a dirty toilet while we were eating dinner (that's why we hired YOU so my husband wouldn't have to carry out an old dirty toilet)!!! And since Todd broke everything we were left with no water overnight. The plumber we had to hire to clean up after Todd said 'I don't know who you hired, but don't EVER let that person work in your house again. Fast forward, Mike FINALLY got around to scheduling our gutter cleaning job and outdoor electrical work for the last week in August (a job we began requesting in MAY). We decided to go ahead as long as they didn't send Todd because as I said, a few years ago, we had pretty decent service from them. At that point it had been the 10th time we had requested the job be completed and while they made us wait an additional 4 weeks after that conversation for the appointment, they ASSURED us they would finally get the gutter job done. I once again scheduled a day off from work to accommodate the appointment. 30 minutes AFTER they were supposed to begin the work, Mike called and left a message to communicate that they weren't going to bother to show up to do the work ONCE AGAIN!! He said they were short a tech and decided that they would do other people's work but NOT OURS!!! So after an ENTIRE summer of Mike stringing us along, 3 days taken off work to accommodate appointments that they didn't show up for, at least 10 requests and 4 confirmed appointments (of which they only showed up for 1), I currently have trees growing out of my gutters, water seeping into my basement, a broken floor, crappy plumbing, no outdoor lights, a son who knows new curse words (Todd used the C word a number of times while doing work) , they have charged me $500, part of which was for breaking a valve they shouldn't have touched AND they want me to WAIT for an appointment again AND take another day away from work so they can stand us up another time? Fat chance! Never doing business with them again and we may honestly take them to small claims court for the wasted vacation time and damage they've caused to our home. My recommendation? Call ANYONE else!
