Tricia wanted an updated aesthetic in her master bathroom, along with some improved functionality in terms of the overall temperature of the space and speed of warm water to her shower. She also wanted to include elements in the design that would aid in her aging in her home. The master bathroom design utilized an Ansel Adams picture for inspiration and color scheme. A deep freestanding tub was installed near the fireplace and would serve as her Japanese Soaking Tub. The design included the shower and tub in the same area with a linear drain, creating an open wet room, leaving plenty of space for wheelchair accessibility, should it be needed. The existing double-sided fireplace facade was refaced on the bathroom side to include new beautiful gray porcelain tile from United Tile and the fireplace itself was painted black with heat-safe paint to give it new life. The same tile was used for the floor with a heat underlayment for most of the bathroom, including in the toilet area. A Pental Grigio Wave accent wall graced the south side of the wet room, providing a lovely alternative to the gray. Tricia chose Bati Orient Flat Pebbles as the floor tile for both looks and tactile presentation. A unique element in Tricia’s bathroom, was the beautifully etched glass door that created privacy for the toilet area upon entrance to the room. She opted for a horizontal grain bamboo vanity from KC Fine Cabinetry with a Sienna stain, topped with a Cambria quartz countertop in Fieldstone with a wave edge to complete the look. The finished bathroom remodel is cohesive, beautiful and functional and still features Tricia’s beautiful Lake Sammamish view from her new shower.

Sue and Don moved back to Mercer Island when one of their daughters, a California resident, purchased a charming rambler that Sue and Don could live in and would serve as a future investment property for her. While the home had good bones, it needed some TLC to make it the home they desired. Their first request was to remove the giant stone fireplace that overwhelmed the center of the house. Remodeling their kitchen and creating a vaulted ceiling were a close second and third on their list of must haves. Busy retirees, Sue requested a built-in desk area, consistent with the kitchen decor to be fit into the new design along with a living room space that contained built-in shelves and a more understated gas fireplace. Founder Len McAdams and Designer Cindy Larson worked with the couple to create a space that contained all of the elements they desired included a newly vaulted ceiling within the existing roofline. The new kitchen, larger than the original, contains beautiful granite countertops, cherry cabinets, two skylights and a raised eating bar. A relocated gas fireplace and entertainment center now complement the main seating area, revamping the spacious great room. A new door and a fresh coat of paint completed the transformation.

Tim and Cheri intend to stay in their home and wanted to upgrade from their basic 1990s builder-grade kitchen. Desiring a style reminiscent of their last Italian vacation, they requested a blend of an Italian villa-style space with modern touches while increasing their storage capacity. This dream kitchen features custom-built hand-painted cabinetry; quartz countertops; vintage-style tile backsplash; espresso-stained wood floors and gourmet appliances. By replacing a built-in pantry in favor of cabinetry, they were able to achieve maximum storage while reclaiming space in an adjoining coat closet. We reworked the kitchen layout to include increased cabinet height, a larger peninsula allowed for additional knee room for bar seating and a new window in the attached dining nook brought more natural light. By using an espresso stain on the existing wood floors, we created a one-of-a-kind look to finish the space. This warm and inviting kitchen is perfect for entertaining family and friends something they really enjoy doing!

Kelly approached us about improving the outdoor areas of her vintage 1959 Kirkland home. Currently a beautiful set of French doors in her master bedroom opened up to absolutely nothing. She wanted a private deck where she and her husband could sip a glass of wine on warm summer nights or enjoy morning coffee on the weekends. In addition, Kellys front deck was rotting and not safe for entertaining, let alone for her children to play on. She wanted to replace the deck with a low-maintenance material that would compliment her homes mid-century architecture. Ideally, this space would be used for barbecuing, entertaining and allow access to their lower yard where they planned to put an herb garden. Sales Manager Mark Jensen worked with Kelly to design her two decks. The master bedroom deck was 10 ft by 10 ft and constructed of dual-color hydrapressed slabs and a cable railing. The homeowners love this new extension to their master bedroom. The front deck carries the same elements of the master bedroom deck, a modern-style comprised of dual-color hydrapressed slabs and a powder-coated cable railing that sits atop a wood frame and geo-grid fabric. Each hydrapressed slab is pressed to give a dense, durable and non-slip surface; an excellent product for our northwest rainy climate. The geo-grid fabric provides additional support beyond the frame so that the 90 lb slabs are stable and secure. Kellys family loves using their new spaces and are please with their decision to use us a s a design-build firm. They are ready for entertaining friends and family!

Kirby wanted a garage that would have the same characteristics as his uniquely built home. Sometimes a site presents challenges that those not in the building business just might not expect. Building a garage on a steep hillside covered with trees is not an overwhelming task, but in this case, obtaining permits from Kirkland almost was! Designer Mindi Person along with our own Mark Jensen, developed a plan, which complemented the design of Kirbys home, while respecting the native trees which were to remain. In order to satisfy the City of Kirkland that every detail had been examined, our design team eventually included a soils engineer, a structural engineer, an arborist, tree removal expert and more! Fortunately the McAdams Team has a long history working with the Kirkland building officials. So in due course the permits were issued with a long list of conditions we made part of our project specification. Constructing the garage involved a deep excavation by heavy machinery, to be achieved without disturbing significant trees. In addition to the main structure, extensive concrete sidewalks and entry decks were part of the design so that pedestrians can walk up to the home from the street or the new garage. Step by step, the McAdams Remodeling & Design team, lead by Job Manager Chris Guempel took the vision from paper to reality. Now that the garage addition is all done, Kirby has to choose which new car to bring home!

While there wasn't something functionally wrong with Kathy & Dicks master suite, it had been 20 years since theyd renewed the space. Their master bedroom had been added on to their home by McAdams Remodeling & Design 20 years prior, and the couple had decided it was time to make the space more reflective of their current needs. An avid reader, Kathy was very excited to have a built-in bookshelf added her space near the master suite sitting area. The couple also desired a built-in headboard bookshelf at the head of the bed to contain books, family photos and other keepsakes. The attached master bathroom was upgraded from a pink and green Laura Ashley motif to a more contemporary style with a gorgeous travertine tile on the shower walls and pebble floor within the open shower. A beautiful free-standing soaking tub greeted you upon entrance to the renovated bathroom, and glass block provided just enough privacy within the open air shower. A small alcove tucked the toilet out of sight and built-in shelving contained large spa towels. The double-vanity remained from a previous remodel, but continued to complement the new design.

Upon entering this client's home, the stairs are one of the first things you see. They wanted that first look to make you feel warm and cozy and to capture the elegance of their home. Originally intending to replace the carpet on the stairs, they soon realized that hardwoods would make more of an impact and better tie the house together. New espresso-stained wood steps replaced the carpet and coordinated with their downstairs flooring. The banisters also comprised the espresso finish and the white pickets gave a craftsman feel. White trim finished the look and provided the charm they desired.

Our artistically-inclined homeowners, Tim and Cheri wanted to take their basic but functional powder room to a space that was modern and beautiful while maintaining its functional aspects. A standard oak cabinet with a tile top was replaced by a richly tobacco stained cherry cabinet with solid-surface granite. The sink, previously a cream surface mount version, is now a gorgeous glass vessel sink that Dale Chihuly would be envious of. A standard square mirror has been swapped for a striking dark-finish oval version that repeats the curvature of the vanity light. An original oil painting and Benjamin Moores Purple Haze paint both add a pop of color on the walls, transforming this space into a bathroom well wait in line to wash our hands in.

The original master bathroom in their 1970s tri-level home had a unique floor plan. There was a vanity in the bedroom that was seldom used, while the bathroom itself contained a second vanity and a separate shower and toilet room. The bathroom, while functional, needed a face lift and felt small even thought there was decent square footage. Since they intended to remodel both bathrooms, one after the other, it meant that they would take that seldom used vanity space in the bedroom and re-purpose it to add more square footage to Chriss bathroom. Sashas master bedroom, now with no vanity mid-room, contained fresh sheetrock, paint and a lovely new piece of art complete with an art-focused light bringing the room a more traditional and classy look. We removed the wall and door that previously separated her shower and toilet from the vanity, opening up the bathroom. A new beautiful maple vanity in a praline color replaced the old and was separated by a half wall to give the wall-hung Duravit toilet privacy. The shower, previously with a pan base, was exchanged with a beautiful Travertine Capistrano tile laid vertically with clear Agalite frameless glass doors. A shallow vanity-matching cabinet above the toilet gave Sasha additional toiletry storage space she needed.
